Lilly Ritz continued her impressive start to the 2021-22 campaign, pouring in a game-high 25 points to lead Youngstown State past Detroit Mercy on the road Saturday, 64-56.
Ritz went 11-for-15 from the field after going 10-of-12 in a win against Oakland earlier in the week. She added five rebounds.
Chelsea Olson chipped in 14 points, eight boards and seven assists for YSU (4-0, 2-0 Horizon League), which outscored Detroit Mercy (0-4, 0-2) 19-11 in the fourth quarter for the win.
The Penguins struggled from 3-point range, an oddity for them, sinking just four of 18 treys. But a 10-for-11 day at the stripe and 25-for-54 overall performance from the field overcame that.
Paige Shy added nine points and six rebounds, while Lindsey Linard had seven points.
The teams were tied with 3:20 to play following a free throw from Linard. From there, a 7-0 spurt helped YSU put the game away.
Linard began that run with a layup, and then Ritz added a jumper, layup and free throw to complete it. Ritz has scored in double figures in each of YSU's games now, and posted 24 against Oakland before scoring 25 at Detroit Mercy. YSU outscored the Titans 42-28 down low.
Three Titans scored in double figures, as Irene Murua posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Daija Moses scored 12 points and Brandi Washington netted 10.
The Penguins return home Friday for a matchup with Long Island. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
