¯ BRISTOL 76, PYMATUNING VALLEY 66: BRISTOLVILLE -- Free throws made the difference for the Panthers in a league win over Pymatuning Valley.
Bristol made more free throws Saturday than the Lakers attempted, with the Panthers hitting 20-of-30.
Jake Erjavec led the Panthers with 21 points. Nick Church scored 15, Mikey Burbach scored 13 and Hadyn Mahan added 11.
Jonah Wilkerson led Pymatuning Valley with 14 points while Robert Verba, Mason Inman and Tanner Rhoades tacked on 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.
¯ LOUISVILLE 66, HOWLAND 36: LOUISVILLE -- With four starters out of the lineup, the visiting Tigers fell behind early and never threatened.
Injuries and illness and a player attending a family funeral left Howland extremely shorthanded as Louisville built a 21-8 lead after one quarter and led 47-15 at intermission.
Grant Brown scored 11 points to lead the Tigers.
Will Aljancic scored 18 for the hosts.
¯ BROOKFIELD 80, CONNEAUT 49: BROOKFIELD -- The Warriors scored 42 points in the first half en route to a huge win over Conneaut.
Brookfield was led by Donovan Pawlowski, one of four double-figure scorers for the Warriors, with 19 points.
Isaiah Jones scored 15, Haden Gibson scored 12 and Josh Solida added 10.
¯ MAPLEWOOD 53, LORDSTOWN 47: LORDSTOWN -- The Rockets spoiled Lordstown's senior night with a 19-point fourth quarter to win.
Connor Steffens led Maplewood with 17 points. Gavin Ainsley scored 12 and Logan Burggraf added 10.
Kaiden Anthony led the Red Devils with 19 points.
¯ MOONEY 39, LAKE CENTER 29: CANTON -- The Cardinals bolted to a 13-4 first-quarter advantage and weren't seriously threatened from there, although the Tigers slowed the pace.
Michael Pelini and Jack Pepperney scored 10 points apiece for Mooney and Mick Hergenrother tallied seven points in the non-league game played at GlenOak.
¯ HUBBARD 61, LIBERTY 57 (OT): HUBBARD -- The host Eagles overcame a 45-30 deficit entering the fourth quarter, outscoring the Leopards 21-6 to force overtime at 51-all and then completing the comeback with a 10-6 advantage in the extra session.
The Eagles used balanced scoring to get the job done, as Andrew Frank and Ryan Laird scored 11 apiece and Anthony Gaglairdi and Riley Heckert added 10 apiece.
Liberty was led by Jameer Weaver's 12 points. Rashad Chambers and James Davis tallied 11 apiece and O'marion Dawson chipped in with 10.
¯ GLENOAK 71, FITCH 63: CANTON -- The Falcons returned from quarantine with a tough challenge against Canton GlenOak. After a slow start in the first quarter, Fitch started to catch back up as the game went on.
The Falcons outscored the Golden Eagles 26-18 in the fourth quarter, but fell a couple possessions short. Todd Simons led Fitch with 22 points and Allen Underwood added 11.
¯ LOWELLVILLE 53, MINERAL RIDGE 43: LOWELLVILLE -- A hot start propelled the Rockets to a win over Mineral Ridge Saturady.
The Rams were led by Triston Weiss who had 13 points.
¯ MATHEWS 61, CAMPBELL 44: VIENNA -- The Mustangs went on a 29-6 run in the first part of the second half to pull away in a win over Campbell.
Vincent Greenwood had 12 of his 16 points in first half to lead the Mustangs. Vinny Sharp scored 15 and Kyle Powell added 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
¯ CANFIELD 43, HOWLAND 37: HOWLAND -- The Cardinals outscored the hosts 25-18 in the second half after the Tigers held a 19-18 lead at intermission in the All-American Conference tilt.
Canfield had an eight-point advantage on the free-throw line, going 15-for-21 while Howland was 7-for-9. Both teams made four 3-pointers.
Alyssa Pompelia scored 11 for the Tigers amd Jamie DeSalvo contributed nine points.
¯ CHAMPION 44, CRESTVIEW 38: CRESTVIEW -- Ava Howell led the Golden Flashes with 18 points in a win over Crestview.
Howell's total was a game-high and was aided by Brooke Whitt who had nine points.
¯ PYMATUNING VALLEY 55, BRISTOL 46: ANDOVER -- Ellie Struna netted 14 points, Cass Clute scored 13 and Alaina Neczeoprenko added nine as the host Lakers handed the Panthers their first loss in Northeastern Athletic Conference play.
Pymatuning Valley improved to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in the NAC.
Belle Zirzow scored 16 points to fuel Bristol (8-3, 8-1 NAC). Brianna McDowell added 11 points.
¯ BROOKFIELD 59, BERKSHIRE 31: BROOKFIELD -- The host Warriors placed four players in double-digit scoring and used a 34-8 second-half scoring advantage to pull away from the Badgers.
Sophie Hook netted 19 points, Katie Logan and Katie Gibson scored 12 apiece and Audrey Reardon added 10 for Brookfield, which led 25-23 at intermission. Hook added 12 rebounds, five assists and six steals.
Lydia Kastor scored 10 for Berkshire.
¯ MATHEWS 59, LORDSTOWN 32: LORDSTOWN -- Ashley Deans scored 31 points for the Mustangs in a win over Lordstown.
Deans hit seven 3-pointers and was aided by Bella Greenwood with nine points.
Lexie Drewek led the Red Devils with 12.
¯ BOARDMAN 53, FITCH 29: AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch was led by Zayda Creque, Chelsie Wheeler and Jordan Binion who each had six points.
¯ POLAND 69, GIRARD 52: GIRARD -- Jackie Grisdale continued to add to her Poland legacy, as the program's all-time leading scorer set a school record with 10 3-pointers and finished with 34 points.
Mia Malito led Girard with eight points. Sophie Griffith and Madison Logue added seven points apiece for the Indians.
¯ URSULINE 68, CHANEY 30: YOUNGSTOWN -- The Fighting Irish picked up a win on the back half of a back-to-back in a win over Chaney.
Alayna Snith and Anisah Moorman led Ursuline with 16 points each. Cara McNally tacked on nine points.
¯ STRUTHERS 54, HUBBARD 35: HUBBARD -- The Wildcats outscored Hubbard 16-5 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a win.
Chloe Neider led Struthers with 22 points and Jessica Hughes tacked on 10.
Leading for the Eagles was Peytyn Slovesko woth 11 points.
¯ VALLEY CHRISTIAN 40, SOUTHERN 38: YOUNGSTOWN -- Kristen Gill scored 27 points for the Eagles in a win over Southern. Gill and Olivia Kitchen combined for 37 of the team's 40 points.
¯ LOWELLVILLE 37, MINERAL RIDGE 36: MINERAL RIDGE -- Lily Vari-Coppola made a last-second shot to lift the visiting Rockets (6-8, 3-6 MVAC) past the Rams in a Mahoning Valley Conference-Scarlet Tier contest.
Morgan Sigley scored 14 and Candice Miller had 13 for the Rams (1-12, 1-8 MVAC).
¯ GARFIELD 77, LIBERTY 64: LIBERTY -- The G-Men broken open a tight contest throughout by using a 28-11 scoring advantage in the final quarter.
Liberty led 33-30 at halftime and 53-49 entering the fourth quarter.
Garfield had a 24-9 scoring advantage from behind the 3-point arc, as Sarah Seaman connected on four en route to 18 points and Grace Mills made three and also finished with 18 points. Jenna Smith scored 26 points to lead the G-Men.
Demi Watson netted 18 points and Aaliyah Foster had 17 to spark the Leopards. Ally Jones added 12 points.
¯ LEETONIA 36, MAPLEWOOD 35: LEETONIA -- Allison Francosky made a pair of free throws with three seconds left to lift the Bears to a home non-league win over the Rockets.
The game a nip-and-tuck throughout as the teams were tied at 22 at halftime and at 28 entering the final quarter. Maplewood's Baylie Starcher had given her team a 35-34 lead with a 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining.
Marissa Ventura scored 10 and Starcher scored ight for the Rockets 10-5).
BOYS BOWLING
≤ D-II SECTIONAL: CANTON -- The Garfield boys bowling team missed by just 30 points qualifying for advancement when the G-Men finished fourth on Saturday in the Division II sectional at Eastbury Lanes in Canton.
Garfield finished with a final score of 3656, just 30 behind third-place East Canton. Woodridge won the team competition with a 4004 and Rootstown (3817) was second. Only the top three teams advanced to the district on Feb. 19 at Rebman Rec in Lorain.
Garfield senior David Martin placed 13th with a 553 score for the three qualifying rounds, and sophomore Tyler Bortz was tied for 14th at 550.
