McDonald tops WR; LaBrae outscores Liberty

¯ McDONALD 49, WESTERN RESERVE 42: BERLIN CENTER — In a rematch of last season’s district final, McDonald once again got the win, beating Western Reserve in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference showdown.

McDonald was able to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Western Reserve 16-9.

Molly Howard led McDonald with a game-high 26 points, with Sophia Constantino adding 11.

Danielle Vuletich led Western Reserve with 14 points and Olivia Pater added 12.

¯ LaBRAE 72, LIBERTY 69: LIBERTY — LaBrae’s Laura McCoy scored a game-high 32 points to power the Vikings’ past Liberty in an All-American Conference, Blue Tier showdown.

McCoy helped LaBrae take a 40-27 first-half lead, scoring 12 points in the second quarter. She had help from Briley Daniles, who added 20 points, 13 in the second half to thwart a Liberty rally. She made key free throws in the fourth quarter and was 5-of-6 from the line in the game.

Liberty outscored the Vikings, 42-32, in the second half to nearly pull off a comeback. Demi Watons paced the Leopards with 17. She was one of four players in double figures, as Aaliyah Foster, Kylee Thomas and Cianna Smith scored 10 points each.

¯ BRISTOL 75, MATHEWS 43: BRISTOLVILLE — Belle Zirzow of Bristol scored 32 points and helped the Panthers pull away from Mathews in a Northeastern Athletic Conference victory.

Zirzow scored 19 in the first half, when Bristol took a 35-24 lead. Jaylyn Mullenax added 11 points for the Panthers, helping them pull away by outscoring Mathews, 42-19, in the second half.

Mya MacGregor paced Mathews with 15 points, and Ashley Deans put in 10 more.

¯ MAPLEWOOD 31, BADGER 18: VERNON — Maplewood’s defense shut down the Braves in a Northeastern Athletic Conference victory.

Baylie Starcher scored 12 points to lead the Rockets, who took a 20-12 halftime lead and only allowed Badger to score six points in the second half.

Grace Popovich paced the Braves with seven points.

¯ POLAND 65, LAKEVIEW 32: CORTLAND — Poland moves to 8-1 on the year after a big win over Lakeview for their eighth straight victory.

Morgan Kluchar led the team with 15 points and Jackie Grisdale scored 12.

Poland outscored Lakeview 20-2 in the first quarter.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 73, SEBRING 30: NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Jays outscored Sebring 21-3 in the second quarter and pulled away in a big win over the Trojans.

Chelsea Williams led Jackson-Milton (5-4, 3-2) with 28 points. Kylie Wilson scored 19 and Ava Darney added 12.

The Blue Jays held Sebring to 14 points in the second half.

Devyn Reggi led Sebring with 14 points.

¯ JEFFERSON 51, GIRARD 37: JEFFERSON — The Falcons used a strong second half to push themselves past Girard. The Indians were outscored by seven in the third quarter and by five in the fourth as Jefferson pulled away.

Sophie Griffith led the Indians (1-1, 1-1) with 10 points. Taylor Skinner led the Falcons with a game-high 16 points.

¯ WATERLOO 59, MINERAL RIDGE 29: ATWATER — Candice Miller scored 15 points for the Rams in a loss to Waterloo.

Waterloo was led by Brooke Waldeck who scored a game-high 27 points to power the Vikings past Mineral Ridge. Mineral Ridge trailed 20-8 after the first quarter.

The Rams fall to 0-3 on the year.
