McDonald erupts for 91 in win over Liberty

¯ McDONALD 91, LIBERTY 74: LIBERTY — The visiting Blue Devils erupted for 28 points in each of the first two quarters and led 56-44 at halftime, as Miles Culp scored 31 points and Jake Portolese added 28 on the strength of six 3-pointers.

Anthony Ragazzine added 13 points and Eli Street scored 10 as McDonald had a 42-18 scoring advantage from beyond the 3-point arc.

James Davis led the Leopards with 25 points, eight assists and five rebounds and. Jameer Weaver scored 17 points and Rashad Chambers added 13.

¯ NEWTON FALLS 78, CAMPBELL 48: NEWTON FALLS — Joey Kline supplied 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists as the host Tigers downed the Red Devils.

Josh Honeycutt contributed 23 points and 14 rebounds for Newton Falls, which improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the MVAC-Gray.

Collin Michaels scored 17 points and Skevos Kouos added 13 for Campbell.

¯ BROOKFIELD 56, MATHEWS 46: BROOKFIELD — The Warriors overcame a sluggish third period as Haden Gibson scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the hosts to a 23-12 scoring advantage that proved to be the difference.

Brookfield led 28-23 at intermission, but the Mustangs allowed just five points in the third period to head to the fourth quarter in a 34-all tie.

Donovan Pawlowski scored 18 points to lead Brookfield and Isaiah Jones added 12 points.

Mathews got 12 points from Vincent Greenwood and 10 from Kyle Powell.

¯ BADGER 56, MAPLEWOOD 45: MECCA — The visiting Braves led the Rockets 31-20 at halftime and held onto the margin in the end to win the Northeastern Athletic Conference tilt.

Jack Lendak netted 13 points, Logan Murphy scored 11 and Heath Stanhope added 10 points for Badger, which moved to 3-5 overall.

Maplewood was led by Alex Donaldson’s 11 points. Logan Burggraf chipped in with nine points and Connor Steffens added eight. The Rockets dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 56, MINERAL RIDGE 55, OT: MINERAL RIDGE — The Blue Jays outscored the Rams 5-4 in the overtime period to pick up the victory.

Cole Grope scored 15 points, Nick McGinnis had 10, AJ Bouch tallied nine and Frank Prozy contributed eight in a balanced effort.

Mineral Ridge was led by Zach James with 16 points, Jalen Royal-Eiland with 11 and Devon Winford and Austin Governor who scored eight points each.

¯ STRUTHERS 75, GIRARD 36: STRUTHERS — The host Wildcats led 21-5 after one quarter and rolled past the Indians.

Sal Shaffer scored 15 points, Ronnie Leonard netted 14 and Trey Metzka added 13 points to lead Struthers.

Gus Johnson scored 13 and Bobby Alejars contributed 10 for the Indians.

¯ GRAND VALLEY 58, WICKLIFFE 55: WICKLIFFE — Derek Jackson scored 19 points, Ashton Zupancic netted 16 and Ethan Spencer scored 11 to help lead the Mustangs to victory.

Grand Valley led 17-9 after the first quarter but the hosts tied the score at 31 by halftime. The Mustangs responded with an 18-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter for a 49-44 lead and held on down the stretch.


¯ URSULINE 67, HUBBARD 51: YOUNGSTOWN — Four Irish scored in double digits and a fifth just missed, as host Ursuline pulled away from the Eagles with a 25-11 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Anisah Moorman led the Irish (6-4) with 21 points, Alayna Smith and Jamie Nelson scored 11 apiece and Rachel Fabry had 10. Lily Scott finished with nine.

Hubbard (2-5) got a big effort from Sophie Murphy, who netted 27 points. Mary Franges added eight points.
