Sound off!

4 min read

I take issue with a Sound Off last weekend. I was admitted to Emergency at St Joe's recently with minor auto accident injuries. I was treated very well even though I ended up in the hall while in emergency due to extreme overcrowding. The hospital was 100% occupied. I remained in emergency until a room opened up. I received a pacemaker and was treated well and courteously the entire time by all, even though they were short-staffed. The food was excellent too. Thank you St. Joe's staff!

It was just announced that the White House is holding Medicaid benefits from both California and Minnesota. This impacts millions. How can anyone with a conscience do something so underhanded and nasty? The results may prove disastrous. Another White House poor decision.

Our government is borrowing $155 billion/month with interest payments of about $23 billion/week. Mr. Trump just thinks this is his personal account. The Smithsonian issue is awful; he wants to rewrite history. This iconic museum is all about scholarship, accuracy and the fullness of the American story. It is nonpartisan, independent and represents integrity. No president has ever had authority over the Smithsonian. We need to stop him!

Ramaswamy misinformation Part 2: His commercials claim about Dr. Amy Acton as director of the Ohio Department of Health "But was she qualified to do so? Her medical knowledge was described as insufficient to the state medical board." Reality: the review was from a four-month internship program. Three years later, upon completing her medical residency, her medical knowledge was rated as "excellent." Gov. DeWine fully supported her. CNN called her "the Buckeye state's version of the straight-talking Dr. Anthony Fauci."

What a joke! Bernie Moreno and Donald Trump want to sanction Canada over the wildfire smoke. What next, build a wall to stop the smoke and make Canada pay for it? And this is coming from an administration that has been quietly rolling back clean air and water standards for the benefit of their rich business friends. So I doubt that they're really concerned about American's health.

Why do people like the writer from Campbell always say that any suggestion to make voting safer will hurt the poor, minorities and women? This is another Democratic talking point. Not one woman I know had any trouble after getting married to register to vote. Why do these people look down on the poor and minorities like they're unable to do things others do? These groups should shun the Democrats because all they want to do is control them. Anyone who wants to vote can vote. Anyone who wants an ID can get one no matter what the Democrats say!

So, Insight is interested in "helping" the health care situation in Sturgis, Michigan, after that hospital recently closed. Meanwhile, Warren is left with below acceptable healthcare after the Steward-Insight fiasco. Where is Gov. DeWine? Where are our congressmen? Where are our senators? Where are our local leaders? With each passing day, Trumbull County is sinking into a deeper abyss of inadequate health facilities. Lack of medical resources will certainly not attract new companies or industry to this area! We need help!

Trumbull County retirees paying property tax comprise 23.1% of total population. News flash to a person who says they are ungrateful for measly 2.5% relief; they live on fixed income. Seniors are penalized for owning well-kept, maintained homes. No one cares if a broken tax situation puts them out of it. Many don't meet income requirements for Homestead reduction. Seniors vote for police, fire, roads and, yes, schools. Regardless of who sets rules of property tax, ineffective county commissioners need replaced.

Vivek Ramaswamy has given us reasons not to vote for Amy Acton but has not given us any reason to vote for him.

It was calculated that only 85-90% of the immigrants being chased are criminals. Take the guns away from ICE. They shouldn't need them. They're tough so they should be able to handle the arrests easily as they are chasing women and children.
