Sound off!

I removed my Tribune paper box. No more morning deliveries. No Sunday paper. I wished they stopped the Tuesday paper instead. Nothing happens on Tuesdays. The paper is now delivered by mail in the afternoon. I delivered the Tribune back in the ’60s and ’70s. Back then, a paperboy was also expected to collect the money from the customers. My neighbor says he is cancelling. The news will be old by then. Is this the end of an era in Warren?

Councilman Brian Kropp on Linkedin lists his position as a Newton Falls Councilman of 4 years and 10 months. However Mr. Kropp was elected recently in November of 2025. My Newton Falls math tells me someone is fudging their time served as an elected official under false pretenses and is a no no. That would be like an elected official making false claims about military service, when they have never served.

“Republican” David DeChristofaro in an article in the Tribune May 14 said he doesn’t know the formula the state uses to calculate the amount of gas tax returned to each county. It’s his job to know! Call ODOT, do a google search, find out! He also talked about a $5 license plate tax that can be collected. Be warned, he is setting the ground work to get into your pockets. I thought Republicans were against taxes.

Regarding May 14’s editorial of the Governor making the right call for AG: A very astute well thought out editorial. It causes reflection on term limits. They have turned out to be exactly one thing in Ohio: An ongoing game of musical chairs where politicians and parties decide who and when sitting officials switch seats. Limits assume voters are dumb taking away the right to vote and preventing popular effective office holders from remaining in good service giving special lobbying interests more influence developing public policy and legislation. The Governor made the right call as usual!

Fact: Iran never said “wipe Israel off the map”. And Iran condemned the 9-11 terror attacks as billions of Muslims mourned the evil mass killings of Americans. Fact: Cal Thomas wrote fake news about Pope Leo and Iran. The Iranians still want peace even though Trump and Netanyahu signed ceasefires right before waging surprise attacks on them. Most importantly, only Trump has questioned, “Why do we have nuclear weapons if we aren’t allowed to use them?”

Saturday’s article about Howland Corners led to talking about closing Howland Wilson Road at Route 82. I am totally against closing Howland Wilson Road as it is a busy intersection. I recommended to the state when they brought up building the diverging diamond that closing it off would be a big mistake. Instead, I recommended that the left-turn lane traffic light go red when traffic is going east and west instead of allowing traffic to move on the solid green light. I guess this has fallen on deaf ears. The Route 46 corridor from North River Road to Route 422 has become a busy road. I would recommend they look at least making Route 46 south three lanes from North River Road and connecting up to the diverging diamond. I would also recommend that ODOT look at making North River Road three lanes from Mahoning Avenue (state Route 45) to Route 46. Traffic is steadily increasing on these roads due to businesses that have built up in these areas.

A question for our “leaders,” both local and statewide: What are you doing to bring a hospital to Trumbull County? Each candidate for a major office should be required to answer this question prior to the election. St. Joe’s cannot handle the influx of patients; its emergency room is a disaster; the hospital is understaffed and overworked. Our “leaders,” from the mayor to the governor, should do something positive instead of posing for photo ops!

For four years now, our Christmas tree has stood silently in the corner waiting for your return, my dear granddaughter. It was then that family court gave your custody to your father and also gave him control over all of us. One hour once a week is not enough time for you to get all your words out to your mom, and those words and her words are measured in a supervised situation. One day, perhaps, you will be able to free yourself and return home to us. We await this day with hope.

The Trib keenly asked in a recent editorial: ” How do we prepare young people to move into a job market that looks nothing like it did 10 years ago?” Well heaven forbid that we add AI into our schools’ curricula that would prepare kids to know about and deal with the world’s new literacy! Just as reading and writing are core skills, data literacy, and AI tool orchestration will be a baseline competency for our future. Without these basics in our youth’s educational core, surely the Ohio brain drain grows.

How in the world does cage fighting on the White House lawn represent our country and its heritage? Trump says they are the greatest warriors. NO, they aren’t. Our military are!! This is a sport and nothing more. To build a stadium on the lawn is “another” desecration of OUR White House property. More millions to build it and more to repair the area once it is over.
