DEAR EDITOR:
Before it became the White House, it was called "the President's House."
George Washington selected the site to renovate, upgrade or change the way every president has since 1792. Period.
President Taft had a Victorian obsession in 1881, with a Tiffany window in front. In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt got rid of that and added the West Wing and a tennis court. In 1942, FDR added the East Wing, an indoor swimming pool and an underground bomb shelter. In addition to that, he remodeled the kitchen with stainless steel, then added a movie theater. In 1948, President Truman did a complete renovation, demolished the entire White House to the extent that, for four years he lived in Blair House. It had to be put back together the way he wanted, complete with a bowling alley. In 1961, JFK bought historic artifacts to showcase American history and the Rose Garden. In 1979, Jimmy Carter installed a computer and water-heating solar panels; President Reagan took them out.
President Obama took out the tennis courts and installed a basketball court and renovated the Oval Office.
So, when President Trump wants a Grand Ballroom at no expense to taxpayers, I say "Do it."
No one ever said one word until (it was) President Trump.
I say, "Get over it."
