Sound off!

The Warren police chief should resign. We need a chief that actually lives in Warren instead of Howland. It’s only human nature that a person would care more about a community in which they actually live. This gunplay has been going on for years with no out-of-the-box solutions.

The fatal shooting at the Convenient Store on Larchmont and Elm gives credence to the previous idea of closing it as a nuisance. If City Council had followed through with that proposal, this tragedy would have been averted. That location has been nothing but trouble for years. Close it now before something else happens.

I read that Trump is planning to return a statue torn down by protesters in D.C. during America’s “Dark Ages.” Nice to know that Trump is a guy who has his head on straight –something the libs should consider.

I want to thank Judge Cynthia Rice for coming to the proper conclusion that the former fiscal officer Linda McCullough stole monies, made misappropriations and embezzled from Vienna Township. Ms McCullough showed no remorse for her actions and Judge Rice saw right through her lame excuses.

Newton Falls says it will use the speeders to pay for the PD, but then they say they need the cameras to stop speeders. No speeders, no money. The sheriff’s deputies were doing a much better job than the PD did. Why not take any money from the cameras and bring them back instead? Why saddle the village with another department to oversee? This is a money grab no matter how they spin it. I think Newton Falls coined the Forrest Gump saying, “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Trump is claiming to have won the USA trillions in private investments from foreign nations as a result of his reckless tariff wars, such as “$700 billion promised by the EU.” However, no binding agreement was signed and there are no EU incentive programs to encourage private industries. EU leaders added, in free countries the government cannot force private industries to invest in foreign countries.

Trump administration member Alex Acosta gave Trump’s convicted pedophile friend, Epstein, a sweetheart deal “misdemeanor; only 13 months in jail with work-release after 3 months” for sex trafficking over 1,000 young girls to elite men. When members of the House of Representatives Oversight Subcommittee voted to release the Epstein files in full immediately for total scrutiny, the cult of Trump was on full display by MAGA Republicans’ heavy-hearted reluctance to vote against the personal interests of their favorite dictator.

It’s unfortunate that society has not evolved to the point where we no longer have these food-eating “competitions.” But we can do two things. One is to require that they be held in the parking lots of the St. Vincent de Paul kitchen, the Rescue Mission, or the Warren Family Mission. Participants can stuff their faces with meatballs, hot dogs or peppers in front of people who struggle to feed themselves and their families. Second, media should not devote one drop of ink, nor one second of airtime to this garbage. Could someone also explain how meatball-eating contests are part of Italian heritage?

With summertime picnics, parties, garage / yard sales, people park in driveways and on the street. In addition there are lawn services, mail carriers, and various delivery vehicles. So why do some residents feel the need to park on both sides of the street, causing a bottleneck, when there is clearly space in their driveways? I suggest the city post “no parking this side” signs. This may not solve this problem, but maybe a ticket / citation would help.

What will be the breaking point for this country? The absolute bizarre and unconstitutional acts of this administration cannot be ignored. I’m a disgusted citizen and so disappointed with what my once proud country has become. And even the sad fact that my declaration doesn’t raise any alarms is not lost on me. America has become complacent with our dysfunction. This is so much worse than nuclear devastation would cause. At least then we could blame it on some other cause than ourselves. I feel defeated. Welcome to Dystopia provided by all voters of this administration. I definitely was not one of them.

Are you kidding me!!! First he took out the roses in the Rose Garden and replaced them with stones. Now he wants to build a ballroom. He’s taking out the east wing where the first lady’s office is. That’s no great loss. She doesn’t do anything and besides that, she’s never there anyway. Mr. Trump has gone goofy. The White House is supposed to be the “people’s house”. Not anymore.

A recent editorial noted Ohio’s falling fertility rate affecting state financial health while ignoring a critical health factor. How mercenary! In a 2024 March of Dimes report, Ohio ranked with the nine worst states on Infant Mortality Rate: 7.11 deaths per 1,000 births in 2023. The Ohio Capital Journal cited a severe maternal morbidity rate of 93.3 deaths per 10,000 deliveries. With the elimination/reduced state/federal monies for Medicaid/WIC and the closing of hospitals/clinics, WHY would Ohio women risk giving birth?

— Howland

I would like to know what happened to all the police blotters that were printed in the Tribune for the nearby cities and townships? I saw one for Warren a week or so ago and that’s the first one that I’ve seen in a very long time. I live in Cortland and I for one, would like to know what is going on in my city and surrounding areas. It’s important to know what’s happening in your neck of the woods.

— Cortland

I wish the far left writers to Sound Off would tell all of us what their policies are instead of just saying how much they hate President Trump. A recent writer from Hubbard condemned others from Hubbard for supporting Trump. All they stated were the things you hear on CNN or MSNBC. It’s amazing how some people just can’t accept that their side lost. I disagreed with just about everything Biden did but I didn’t call his supporters names. Some people just need to grow up.

I heard from a retired city employee that the city of Warren does not charge summer festivals for the electric and water utilities that they use. I’m sure even just a dozen electrical tie-ins on the square for five days costs money. Why are taxpayers on the hook for this every year? How is this fair? I would love to hear Mayor Franklin deny or explain this!

Scott Bessent, Donald Trump and his MAGA sycophants watching the economy sink before all of our eyes brings to mind the captain of the Titanic ordering his band to play music and pretend nothing was wrong even until the ship broke in half! In our case Donald Trump is the iceberg and Congress has the power to stop it before it sinks us. Trump has zero trade deals signed with binding trade contracts or treaties after six months. He only has a few foreign “promises” to invest in America’s economy someday; probably after our collapse. Is this how America goes down?

— Warren

Instead of trying to change history, the president should fulfill his campaign promise of lowering prices. Prices are higher than when he came to office. Nobody cares if Edgar Allan Poe had slaves when we’re shopping for food, school clothes and supplies. It’s just another diversion from his involvement with Epstein. The fact DOJ met with Epstein’s convicted accomplice, who was immediately moved to a minimum-security prison afterward, is the writing on the wall! I’m sure she’s waiting for her pardon.
