DEAR EDITOR:
At some point in time, someone is going to have to pay for the repair/replacement of the Leavittsburg dam. The choice is very clear. You have a dam that serves no useful purpose anymore. It is 116 years old with a useful life of 100 years. Eventually It will need major repair or removal at county expense.
You can have it professionally removed by a company that has successfully done this in the past. They will remove the pollutants and allow the river to revert to its natural state. This will all be done at NO COST to the county.
OR you can do nothing, allowing a few of your loudest constituents (who have been dumping their solid waste in it for years) to keep their own little turd pool to float their pontoon boats in, while you wait for the dam to keep deteriorating. This will cause the county to pay the expense of the eventual repair/replacement.
Trumbull County Commissioner Denny Malloy and the "get along gang" of two, choose to ignore the rest of Trumbull County and placate the few locals and their pontoon boats.
I would ask that they have the courage to reconsider and do the right thing.
The time and money wasted on this issue demonstrates a total lack of responsible governance.
