Sound off!

I would like to award a whole armful of orchids to the maintenance crew at Warren's Perkins Park. The grounds on Mother's Day weekend were absolutely manicured. It was a beautiful setting for the holiday celebration.

99.9% of the world watches in dismay as Trump rapidly destroys the very fabric of the supreme law of our land (The U.S. Constitution); and seemingly for the purpose of recreating our nation as his cult of personality (an autocratic former New York City wannabe gangster). There is universal uncertainty and sadness as the era of American- led geopolitical stability comes to an end! Question: does the human race have TDS or were the libs right about Trump all along?

Many in the Republican Party claim to be Christian. If you read comments on many articles on social media, the comments made by these individuals are derogatory. I am disappointed to see these nasty comments. What happened to "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you?" I don't completely agree with either party but see some merit in both, but would be ashamed right now to be called a Republican due to this nastiness. I hope we can soon come together instead of tearing each other apart.

The Wall That Heals, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., was on display in Warren last weekend. Thank you to the Warren Heritage Center and Dr. John and Denise York for honoring these brave heroes. I encourage all Americans to thank our veterans who are often recognizable by their hats. Our Vietnam veterans were widely disrespected when they returned home. When you encounter these amazing men and women, thank them for their sacrifice and greet them with "Welcome Home." You will be blessed by their reaction.

After the buildings he owns alongside Common Pleas Judge Sean O'Brien were marred with graffiti, Jeff Goodman had words about the "idiots" who did it and how their actions "could harm the downtown's appeal to tenants and customers." Sounds good but after over a month since this vandalism, the graffiti is still on the rear of his Atrium Building! If Goodman is really worried about the curb appeal of downtown, why hasn't he or his building co-owner taken care of this?

Hopes soar in Warren as Kimberly-Clark plans to build here and the Reeves Building is demolished to make room for a hotel, shopping areas and entertainment venues. New restaurants are being planned. "The Peninsula" is being hailed as a major step in the revitalization of Warren. Oops! What happens to these plans when investors realize that there's not an adequate hospital here. What will the level of medical care be for these new employees? Reality, folks. Think about it.

I did not know the Ohio Republican Party was for sale. I must have missed the advertisement. Was it a buy one get one free sale or did the buyer have to pay full price? If you have enough money you can buy anything. Even a primary election.

The poll in the 5-14-2025 Tribune was: Should companies be required to lower drug prices? 92% yes, 8% no. The executive order written to force pharmaceutical companies to do this will lose in the courts when Big Pharma fights against it. The Democrats pushed to get it codified in the Big Beautiful (Tax Cut) Bill, but Republicans refused to add it. I wonder why President Trump isn't pushing Republicans to add it? Maybe the executive order is just a show for the slow.

The city's getting sued because of the demo contract of the Reeves Building. Lawsuits against WPD and MORE to come against the city. How is the city going to cover all this with the income tax from the hospital and marijuana business gone? I know where there's $260,000 for the budget. Cancel the elected officials' pay raises!

Perceptions on both sides of the aisle were that if Mike Wilson were elected sheriff, he would bring about sweeping favorable change to the jail and road department. Well past the honeymoon phase, his hand-picked rank-and-file personnel offer more of the same toxic culture. Is it too far gone to be turned around? Or more empty campaign promises?

Last weekend I attended my 4-year-old granddaughter's dance recital. At intermission, I went to the lobby and there was a group of people who smelled so bad of marijuana that the whole lobby stunk. I guess these people must have smoked during intermission. Smoking in public is illegal and driving after smoking is the same as drinking and driving. I can't believe that people can be so inconsiderate to expose children to their bad habits. If you want to smoke dope, do it at home.
