Here’s an ode to mark Warren No Kings Day
DEAR EDITOR:
Yesterday, I joined neighbors and friends for the No Kings Day celebration organized by Good Trouble Trumbull at Courthouse Square in Warren. I’m submitting my poem, “Ode to No Kings Day,” to the Tribune Chronicle as a letter to the editor.
My poster contained a quote that is referenced in the poem: “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen” (Brene Brown).
I woke up this morning and heard the birds sing
They rejoice that today is the day of no kings
All over the country we rally today
From Warren to Boston, New York to LA
We join here in peace to say what we mean
We show up with courage, let ourselves be seen
We’re here to express our support for our neighbors
For health care, for science, for organized labor
United we stand and when we disagree
We listen with kindness and deep empathy
So together now let’s raise our voices and sing
Because in America, we have no kings.
