Conservatives attack pro-choice again

3 min read

DEAR EDITOR:

Ohio's Republican legislators are again trying to override the will of voters by initiating yet another attempt to override abortion rights. Less than two years ago, we overwhelmingly passed Issue 1, which was an initiative for which Ohioans collected signatures to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot.

Voters approved it by a ratio of 56 to 44 percent, which indicated that a majority of people including Democratic, Republican and Independent voters wanted this amendment.

Frankly, I am sick of legislators who show us repeatedly that they care nothing about what we want.

This attitude specifically rests with conservatives at both the state and federal levels.

Conservatives want to rule from the basis of their own personal needs and opinions. They forget that we elected them to represent us and vote for what we want. We did not elect them to vote for their own personal choices.

They lied to us when they campaigned and promised to represent us fully and fairly. From the time our initiative passed, they expressed determination to somehow erase our votes.

They disrespect us time after time, issue after issue. Most Ohioans do not want to take money from our public schools and give it to private charter schools, yet that's what they are doing.

The new Ohio budget divides Ohioans into seven income ranges.

If you fall into the second range earning between $25,500 to $50,700, you will have a tax increase of $226, while someone earning over $794,800 will gain $608. The real kicker is in tax cuts: Those in the second range will save $7. Those at the top will save $9,566.

Once again, they are challenging the will of the people by bringing their personal religious beliefs into the argument. Is their bill Gospel-driven because they want to lead people to God's salvation? No, they follow orders to vote as the conservative think-tanks tell them. But they need to vote how we, the people, tell them.

God approves of our nation, which is made up of many cultures. The Bible does not explicitly mention abortion. Those who oppose women's choice state that in Psalms we are told to kiss the Son. "The Son" is not the unborn child; He is Jesus Christ.

They do not consider that God created a lengthy procreation process so that women can consider their family needs and that God inspired the medical advances that allow women to make choices.

This bill will call for anyone who seeks an abortion to be charged with murder. Call your legislators and tell them NO.
