DEAR EDITOR:
Our president is the first convicted felon to hold the office. He is known for his outrageous lies, which his cult following find nothing wrong with.
He breaks laws continually. His behavior has caused a "constitutional crisis" by not obeying decisions of the Supreme Court.
Even though the Republican Party controls Congress, he continues to issue executive orders -- over 197 in the first four months. His Republican Congress showed its impotency by doing nothing.
His Gestapo, like ICE, are kidnapping innocent people off the streets. He has cut the VA, which has left our cherished veterans' sacrifices depleted.
He has put people in charge of government departments, not based on competence but rather loyalty to our fearless leader. He has plans for a tax cut, which will benefit only the upper 1% of the rich. This is done on the backs of cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.
This will cost at least $4.5 trillion added to the national debt and it is estimated between 8 and 10 million people will be left without healthcare over the next decade. His tax cuts are for the super rich.
He inherited an economy on the rise and pushed it to the brink of recession.
Yet he keeps bragging about how good of a business man he is, although he has had numerous bankruptcies.
He does not believe in "due process"and "birthright citizenship" both rights ingrained in our constitution. His gestapo style ICE are throwing a net and catching both legal and illegals. At the same time, he is allowing white South Africans into the US as refugees.
He has been stymied by our courts and the courts have been attacked by the president and his cult. Trump has done more damage to our country in the last four months than any foreign power could have wanted to.
He wants to spend anywhere from $25-$45 million on a parade ostensibly to honor the military, but it falls on his birthday. Civilians & veterans are stirred with ire as this huge extravagant expense comes at a time when his overall cuts in the federal government includes slashing the department of veteran affairs deeply. The parade seems like it is all about the president's ego. (A sacrifice our president ignored many times with questionable deferments.)
I end my letter with a quote from Robert F Kennedy:
"Every time we turn our heads, the other way when we see the law flaunted, when we tolerate what we know to be wrong, when we close our eyes and ears to the corrupt because we are too busy or too frightened, when we fail to speak up and speak out we strike a blow against freedom, decency and justice."
