President Donald Trump's tariffs are a tax on the American people because other countries will reciprocate, causing prices to increase and the stock market to decline. He has unqualified people in his cabinet. Trump and Musk have fired the most competent personnel running important government departments. The only thing Trump admires is HIMSELF, money, power and dictators. He wants to be one. He has been impeached twice and is a felon. He is destroying our economy and the Constitution.

State Rep. Tex Fischer has way too much time on his hands if the start time for college football games are one of his biggest concerns. With all that is going on in the state this is all he has to do? His pay should be docked. Who voted for this person?

The article in the Tribune on 5/14 regarding charges of animal cruelty struck a nerve. What is wrong with people? How can someone be so cruel? He tortured that poor dog. He'll probably get a slap on the wrist and told he can't own any more animals. How do we know if he acquires another animal? Does the dog warden or animal welfare check up on him? We need more severe punishment for these offenders. After all, we could have a serial killer in our midst. Animal abuse is one of the first signs.

"Warren to dedicate bridge to African American veterans" (Tribune, May15, 2025). Why? Why not just dedicate the bridge to AMERICAN veterans? Designating anything as "Black" (Black History Month) or "African American" (the bridge) only leads to more racism. Is there a bridge dedicated to Greek Americans…to German Americans…to Irish Americans…to Jewish Americans? To paraphrase Morgan Freeman, the only way to get rid of racism is to stop talking about it.

I wonder how this storyline will fall out. Trump goes to visit the three repressive / autocratic governments while his family is building hotels there. There was much banter on how the palace looked with that beautiful marble. He marveled about that jet that Qatar wants to give him (it's an opulent palace in the sky) and he mentioned those handsome Arab leaders. Trump Enterprises expands at the US taxpayer's expense. I challenge his itinerary; why didn't he visit Israel or our older allies?

In a recent Trump big-budget bill article, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley implored his party not to impair Medicaid, arguing that cutting health care to pay for tax breaks is both "morally wrong and politically suicidal." Maybe it's politically suicidal where Hawley comes from, but, for the good of the average taxpayer, let's not succumb to the "I-cut-my-toenail-and-need-an-ambulance-to take-me-to-the-ER" Medicaid recipient. Besides, why not reduce expenses by cutting Medicaid, yet keep taxes in place so the budget's revenue source is maintained. Such a plan might cut into the deficit better than robbing Peter to pay Paul.".

Good Lord above, Trump is so crazy for glitz and gold. Why can't someone stand up to this shallow megalomaniac with his need for attention and gifts, praise and attention? It is ridiculous that one man controls so many cowards when this kind of 'gift' is simply a 'major bribe' from a country with a questionable reputation. He salivates at their wealth and money. World leaders know he is a sucker for praise and attention, and are laughing at him.

At what point does an electric bike become a motorcycle? We live on a residential street; often quiet but just as often busy. Kids who appear to be elementary school age ride electric bikes and scooters, in the street and on the sidewalk. They even ride at dusk with no lights. No training. No license. By themselves. I don't want to rain on their parade, but sooner or later someone is going to get hurt.

We see the state Rep. David Thomas has proposed yet another mandate from the state. This is a requirement that every community /township to have EMS services. Is this needed? YES! The failure comes with no way to pay for this without raising taxes. This is the same guy who says he wants to lower your taxes. Hint Dave, you can't have it both ways!

Trying to return the river to its natural state, without removing all the dams upstream, including in Alliance, is like trying to restore an old car, but only doing the front end. More people drown in lakes each year, the aquatic life is the same above the dams as below, and the water quality is the same going over or through dams. Don't use buzz words to make it sound good. Tell it like it is, MetroParks. What's the real reason for removing the dam?

Convenient Mart on Larchmont had another shooting on May 3rd. The owner was instructed to shut the store down from 2:30-5:30 a.m. Police observed people going in and out of the store during that time. An investigation found the city administration DID NOT have a "written agreement" with the store owner; only "a handshake and a promise." No written agreement? A handshake and a promise from the owner? Is the administration doing "pinky promises" instead of their jobs?

Kudos to Warren Councilman Greg Greathouse (D-3rd Ward), who is suing Ohio Edison for hundreds of nonfunctioning streetlights! The company had been advised of the many outages several times, but repair has been erratic or nonexistent. Perhaps by saving on the electric bill, Warren can use that money to pay the exorbitant and undeserved salary increases given to members of council and the administration.
