I've been following the MetroParks' assault on the dam in Leavittsburg and others on the Mahoning River with the removal project and have never been a fan, much less a believer in the necessity of their removal.
First off, how and why are the MetroParks with a budget of only about $120,000, pushing the buttons of a $4.8 million project? The answer is it's not.
It's just a tool of the Mahoning River Corridor Revitalization Plan, which is a proxy of GoGreen.gov, a 503c tax-exempt organization based in, you guessed it, California and their Go Green initiative.
A Google search will reveal that many of its directors and officials have salaries in the low to high six figure salaries. So much for the 503c tax-exempt, non-profit organization status. There are hundreds of these nonprofit scams like this.
These kinds of projects are effective for drumming up donations from unsuspecting, well-meaning people and sympathetic corporations to feed their salaries.
The dam in Leavittsburg is a historically significant part of the community. In the past the area on the shores of the pool had a hotel, concessions, boat livery and amusement park. It was a popular summer vacation spot with a trolley line from Warren and still provides enjoyment for the locals and others along the shore.
Not to mention the many species of wildlife -- otters, waterfowl and beavers to name a few, that depend on it for survival clear to Newton Falls. Nobody ever mentions that fact when considering the removal of the dam. One of the cases the MetroParks cites for its destruction is liability insurance, and I'm not buying that. They also talk about reduced flooding which a consulting company said will hardly be affected and areas will still flood.
The real power behind the destruction of the dam is based in California by the morally superior radical environmentalists from Go Green, the Green Initiative for Environmental Justice and many other charlatans.
A flow chart would go like this, Go Green, Mahoning river revitalization, MetroParks and others with absolutely no regard for those adversely affected citizens in Leavittsburg and Braceville.
