Do something about the US Postal Service
DEAR EDITOR:
The U.S. Postal Service is 250 years old and since the first Postmaster Benjamin Franklin, it has delivered uninterrupted service. Recently, USPS has been impacted by a foreign self-proclaimed leader, by layoffs of union-represented employees, many of them Veterans and disabled Veterans. There is an awareness that this is not an accident, but intentional.
Louis DeJoy, was appointed by President Trump in his first term, and is the first U.S. Postmaster to receive an annual compensation of $561,000, with bonuses, a salary never paid to any other postmaster. DeJoy has come under withering criticism for the deterioration of USPS delivery times, despite six rate hikes since he took the helm of the USPS. The criticism has come from both Republican members of Congress as well as Democrats. Yet, our own Ohio representatives recognize the problems but do nothing to help us citizens.
I personally, along with many of my neighbors and relatives, have experienced the intentional deterioration of a legacy system. When will we start getting the representation we pay for? Or is it only by telephone?
