No one wants violent criminals at large in our communities. But allowing numerous deportations to a brutal prison across the globe without a legal trial is not only unlawful, but inhumane.
Some of those swept up in those raids were innocent of any crime and some had a traffic violation.
During WWII, nearly 70,000 of the estimated 122,000 people of Japanese heritage who were incarcerated in isolated desert camps were actually innocent U.S. Citizens. Under the same Alien Enemies Act, they were "turned in" by the false statements of neighbors who then claimed their property and others who feared them or did not approve of their looks, religion or beliefs. No trials and no justice: are we still here?
