The Atlantic recently reported that Bernie Moreno (your senator, not mine) referred to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D), a Jew, as “Der Fuhrer.” The German word for “leader,” fuhrer was also the title used by the Nazi fascist Adolph Hitler. Now, Schumer is the Democratic “leader” of the U. S. Senate but he is the antithesis of a Nazi fascist. Schumer’s great-grandmother lived in Ukraine — then part of Galicia — when the Nazis invaded in 1941. SS stormtroopers ordered her to gather all her children and grandchildren on her porch and gunned down all 17 members of the family” (The Jewish Daily Forward).

Moreno is a Colombian migrant and naturalized citizen (like Elon) from a wealthy Colombian family, and is best known for an attempt to cheat his auto dealership employees out of $400,000 of overtime pay. In 2016 he “described Trump as the lunatic invading the Republican Party (Wikipedia).” Today, Moreno has morphed into an unquestionable loyalist and sycophant of the malignant narcissist. In German, he epitomizes the Anhänger.

So, when a diminutive person like Moreno makes an oblique, antisemitic reference to a patriot like Schumer, we should also take pause and consider the source.
