We won’t need EV charging stations

DEAR EDITOR:

In the March 1 Weekend Edition you asked us to promote the installation of government-funded charging stations for EVs. This is nonsense. Only politicians would be dumb enough to propose this. Any truck driver knows better than that.

All over our country there are warehouses that have electric forklifts. Try telling a truck driver that he should have a seat in the waiting room while the forklift driver recharges his battery.

The truck driver will tell you replace the #@!^ dead battery with one that is fully charged and load his truck. The solution is that simple.

When the battery in your EV gets low, you will pull into a “service station” and tell the attendant that you need a new battery. He will look at the sticker on your windshield and it says, “You need a B size battery. Pull into Bay 6 and tell them you need a fully-charged B battery.” “Stay in your car while they replace the battery. It should take about three minutes.” They will give you a cashier’s slip that you will pay when you drive out. It will cost you about $20 and will be good for another 300 miles.

In our computer age, there may not even be an attendant. It may be a kiosk with a touch screen. The whole transaction should take less than 10 minutes. Charging stations will be limited to in-home units and not found along the highways. Batteries will be charged at an efficient, slower rate as they sit in storage. About four different-sized batteries will be needed for the different sizes of cars and trucks.

And truck drivers will be happy, along with the rest of us. And maybe, there will be fewer cuss words.
