Remember Easter’s real meaning

2 min read

DEAR EDITOR:

Springtime is upon us. Flowers will be blooming, Birds will be singing. Children will be playing in the vibrant sunny days. Easter will be upon us once again.

For some, Easter means new Easter outfits, the Easter bunny, egg hunts, Easter baskets and the like. Some will make an appearance in church just to show off their new Easter outfits. Grocery stores will be filled with people buying food for their special Easter feast. All these things are all well and good, but we should not forget the TRUE meaning of Easter.

Have you ever been lied to, cheated, talked about, mistreated? Blamed for something that you didn't do? Have you ever been humiliated beyond reproach? Have you ever been innocent in a situation, yet the powers at be found you guilty? I know a man named JESUS CHRIST who endured all of this and more. Yet he did nothing wrong. He was innocent!

JESUS went about the world, helping people. Curing people of their ailments, preaching the Gospel of his Father God. Yet he was scorned. He was taken in the darkness of night to be tried and convicted of blasphemy by the Sanhedrin the Jewish supreme council and then to Pontius Pilate, who sentenced Jesus to death.

He carried a old rugged Cross for us! He was beaten beyond recognition. He was spat on, beat, tortured, jeered at, for you and for me! A crown of thorns was placed on his head. The mockery was relentless! Yet he said not a mumbling word.

Jesus Christ took on the sins of the world. He died for you and for me! Innocent blood was shed that day. The good news was that JESUS rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion! How can we not acknowledge this?

Do you know of anyone who would willingly lay down his life for you? JESUS CHRIST did. In my humble opinion, we should tell his story, not just at Easter, but every day. He was nailed to the Cross until he died. He did this for you and for me. OH, WHAT LOVE!!!!!
