Make information truly public
DEAR EDITOR:
Hubbard Trustees “inundated” by records requests.
Here, in my opinion, is a solution for all government
agencies who feel the public’s right to know is a time-consuming nuisance.
Why not start putting all public records online so the TAXPAYERS who pay for this information can search for the information for themselves instead of the government officials acting as gatekeepers to decide if and when the PUBLIC can see this public information.
With the technology in place today, this should be a simple fix. Scan the records into a database, make the database public and those who want the information can search for themselves. This would reduce labor costs to search for information that should be public.
Government officials don’t need to be gatekeepers for information that is public and a Constitutional right.
