Warren did well with American Rescue Plan funds

2 min read

DEAR EDITOR:

One recent question of the day in the Tribune was "Did Warren spend ARP wisely?" The response was 74.4% answering "No."

I can almost guarantee that about 99% of those have never attended a council meeting. I know this because I attend most of those meetings, including the caucus meetings just before the council meetings. The Warren council, in my opinion, has done very well in spending the ARP money. Between the ARP money and other grants awarded, and those organizations that put in requests for ARP funds, if you open your eyes and look around you, you can see how the money has been spent. The pond being repaired at the Courthouse, the many streets that have been repaved, the sidewalks with handicapped access on the street crossings – the council couldn't fulfill all the requests; but I can tell you there was no rubber stamp used and there were many questions asked before any money was doled out.

There are a lot of cities that are in the red while our council watched our spending, which has kept us in the black. I was born and raised in Warren when we were more than double in size. Now, we are slowly growing again. I came back to Warren after 43 years of serving my country and every day, as I drive through Warren, memories come flooding back -- of family and friends and the changes that have come over the years, some good, some bad.

Instead of complaining, if you're so concerned, come to the council meetings.
