DEAR EDITOR:
The glistening snowflakes are falling from a chilly winter's sky. The air brings a chill. Children are busy making snowmen and gleefully throwing snowballs at each other. Making snow angels, sledding ice skating are prominent. Children are in expectation of the man in the red suit and white beard to come sliding down their chimney with a bountiful of presents. People are running around from store to store in search of the perfect present for their loved ones. You can hear the cash registers cha-chinging as you walk through the malls and at various stores. Credit cards are being stretched to their limits. Salvation Army Kettles are everywhere. Seems like Santa Claus is on every corner belting out a HO HO HO to everyone. The phrase Merry Christmas in some places is replaced with Happy Holidays. Oh the joy of Christmas!
I think about the unfortunate . The elderly who has no one to look in on them, or to help them. The homeless who has no money for presents or food to eat. No shelter from the cold. I think of the parents who may have lost their child to violence. I think about the widow or widower who no longer have their spouse with them. Instead there is a empty chair where their loved one once sat. I think about humanity in general.
Christmas in my humble opinion is getting more and more commercialized each year!
A little baby boy was born in a manger. A stable. He is the Son of God. The King of Kings yet he started off in humble beginnings! He was born in Bethlehem to Mary and Joeseph.. God sent him here to save us from our sins. Yet in some cases, he is an afterthought, if he is thought about at all.
JESUS CHRIST fed the hungry, healed the sick, gave comfort and love to everyone who he met. Yet he seems to be pushed aside
Everyone likes to have our birthday acknowledged. What about JESUS Christ?
Giving and receiving gifts is wonderful. A Christmas feast is awesome. If you can, please reach out to someone who is not fortunate as you. Share a meal, a gift if you can, or even a smile. Don't walk by the Salvation Army kettles without putting something in it. Lend a hand to someone who may not be as fortunate as you are.
Remember CHRIST in CHRISTMAS!
