DEAR EDITOR:
It seems as if there is little which can be agreed upon in the current political environment. One of the things which crosses the aisle is the desire for the U.S. to tackle the biggest challenges of our time. Tuberculosis is a respiratory illness that currently kills more people worldwide than any other infectious disease, including COVID. In 2022 alone, 1.3 million people died from TB worldwide. The good news is that the impact of this disease can be effectively managed with some resources and organization. The End TB Now Act requires the U.S. to prioritize TB resources to those most impacted by the disease, as well as requires increased accountability measures. Encouragingly, this bill passed with unanimous, bipartisan support in the Senate (S. 288), and now we need to get it across the finish line in the House (H.R. 1776). I call upon Representative Dave Joyce to work with House leadership to bring this bill to the floor for a vote, and pass H.R. 1776. In doing so, the U.S. can help bring an end to TB and save countless lives.
