DEAR EDITOR:
I'm assuming that Warren's 4th Ward must have the cure to all of the city of Warren's ills! This ward must have perfect sidewalks and silken roads that one could glide on! There must be no seniors who need Mobile Meals. There must be no residents who might need emergency home repairs. Programs that feed hungry children must be sitting idle in Warren's 4th Ward. Why am I making all these assumptions? Well, this ward must be perfect if its council representative James Shaffer gave almost $50,000 of his American Rescue Plan dollars to fix a golf cart path at the city-owned golf course in Howland!
Of course, that money should have been spent in the ward or at least in the city proper. It is amazing that Shaffer thought that this money should have gone to a golf course in Howland! Just amazing, but it goes to show that on a council that has more than its share of out-of-depth and out-of-touch people who will never have a MENSA card in their wallets or their purses, Jim Shaffer shows the largest lack of intelligence of them all. He claims this project was what his predecessor Mark Forte wanted done with this money. Someone should have told Shaffer that the city isn't obligated to follow the wishes of a council rep who resigned midterm and moved to Florida. When he was appointed, he said it was his "lifelong dream" to be a politician. I rest my case where his intelligence is concerned.
