DEAR EDITOR:
Republicans vote for laws that don't favor the average person or family. They don't care what the voters actually want. They've focused on gerrymandering, reducing voters' rights and women's rights, and investigating Democrats vindictively.
Now they are voting on the orders of Donald Trump as they trashed a border bill with Ukraine aid so that Biden wouldn't get credit.
Also:
• Republicans are claiming funds are allocated for public education but are investing in private schools. Private schools reduce the value of homes in a community and students do poorly. Democrats want results-based, community-focused public schools.
• Republicans keep ranting about Obamacare, though they're still without a replacement option. Democrats know that affordable health care for all prevents small health issues from mushrooming and ensures that providers are paid for services.
• Republicans overturned women's freedom of reproductive choice by forcing their religious beliefs on others. Democrats protect our civil rights by ensuring that nobody is punished for their religion and allowing women the freedom to control their own bodies.
• Republicans are chopping food programs, including WIC.
• Republicans do not believe in climate change and they let corporate owners save money by ignoring air and water pollution. Democrats believe in earth stewardship that keeps people healthy while protecting Mother Earth for our children.
• Republicans prefer to pay lower taxes by ignoring our aging infrastructure. Democrats focus on civic responsibilities to maintain roads, bridges, airports and waterways. Democrats wholeheartedly support infrastructure maintenance. This results in community jobs and programs for which Republicans then take credit.
• Republicans covet semi-automatic weapons and other equipment intended for killing, no matter how many children and teachers die in classrooms. Democrats also enjoy guns but want more stringent licensing and registration. Republicans blame gun deaths on mental health issues but will not allocate funds for treatment. Democrats believe in bio-locks on gun safes and reporting private sales at gun shows. Ohio Republicans eliminated taxes on guns and ammunition.
Republicans do not care that Trump tried to bribe President Zelenskyy, incited a riot, stole top-secret documents from our government, misused campaign funds, committed fraud and tried to steal an election -- for starters. Biden's wisdom and experience lead the way to more jobs, better pay, high yield on savings, economic security, connections with other democracies, climate change, and so much more.
Initially Republicans and Democrats alike supported Ukraine, invaded by Russia. Biden said he would sign a border bill written by Republicans that contained Ukraine aid until the former president, who idolizes Putin, told Republicans to stop the bill. Trump ordered his sycophants to vote it down so Biden wouldn't get credit this election season. Trump is telling GOP legislators what to do.
I call that Obstruction of Congress.
