DEAR EDITOR:
As our community embarks upon an election cycle, political opportunists will inevitably attempt to create false narratives with letters to this newspaper. As director of finance and personnel for the Trumbull County engineer's office, I feel a responsibility to clarify the misinformation contained in a recent letter to the editor penned by former Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro.
Over the past several years, Trumbull County Council of Governments saved hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars for its member communities through projects completed with cooperation of Trumbull County Engineer Randy Smith. Our department is fully reimbursed by the respective Trumbull County Council of Government (COG) member communities for the cost of demolition projects. Any allegations that restricted gas and license plate funds are utilized for such purposes is simply a lie. Further, this process was recently reviewed in detail and approved by the Ohio Auditor of State.
Communities and elected officials working together, collaborating to legally share resources with an objective of saving and extending taxpayers monies is, and will continue to be, a primary objective of Randy Smith.
Unlike the previous engineer, the current administration has not pursued any additional tax burden upon our constituents. We will continue to work within our means to support and promote programs that extend your tax dollars.
HERBERT LAUKHART JR.
Director of Finance and Personnel
