Government is fertile ground from which ineptitude flourishes.
Going back in time, the City of Warren has had plans to redevelop the peninsula area, dating back to 2014 and a bit beyond. Research shows there have been well over a dozen plans, ideas and reports of them to make this happen; and, to date, that fertile real estate remains in dormant condition.
Condos, apartments and retail were to line the Mahoning River from Thumm's to Buckeye Street, and the deplorable Reeves Apartments were to be demolished. The current administration is like a self-eating snake that only knows how to destroy itself. Mayor Doug Franklin talks a good talk. Period. Even with his smooth, used car salesman way, he has managed to destroy the efforts and plans of Downtown Development Group which has already sunk millions into downtown. He spent $35K on a tree study along the Mahoning River five to six years ago. Reason and results?
Warren's population has dropped to around 38,000 residents, and that includes those incarcerated in the prison in the 7th Ward.
Plans are worthless unless they are executed.
Need a definition of ineptitude? Look no further than the current mayor, administration and council of the City of Warren, once a proud city.
Interesting to note that Democrats have been in charge since the decline started in the early 1970s.
