In Rod Zeck's letter of Aug. 6, his discontent became obvious through the many statements he made that had little-to-no basis in fact.
"Identify" does not mean "to pretend." It means to recognize or establish someone or something as being a particular person or thing.
The media is not the propaganda arm of Joe Biden. The only lying media outlet that I know of is the Fox News Channel. Fact-checker Snopes clarifies that regulations against false information apply "to over-the-air programs on networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox Broadcasting, but not the Fox News Channel."
President Biden is not a "shameless liar." PolitiFact, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, shows his truth ratio as 56/41. Mr. Trump's ratio was 23/73.
The FBI, CIA, DOJ and the Secret Service are not corrupt. Republicans just don't like it when Mr. Trump is held accountable. As a Democrat, I scorn Republicans who refuse to learn truths, for example ignoring Jan. 6 hearings, when most witnesses were Republicans.
Gas prices rose to record highs when Putin began his war on Ukraine; the same is true of inflation. Gas prices also depend on OPEC and oil company profits. Inflation went up and came down, although Republicans refused to back the infrastructure bill. We are not in recession. We have the lowest unemployment rate ever. The letter writer can say we don't -- but he is wrong.
Trump invoked Title 42 against immigrants, expelling them without legal process. He separated parents from children utilizing two record systems. Biden stopped both practices and still expelled 2.28 million people (PolitiFact). Any spikes in violence should be matched to Republicans' refusal to control guns, yet Republicans holler about defunding police (CNN Fact Check). Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, introduced legislation targeting fentanyl.
The Afghanistan pullout was horrible, but Biden honored the deal Trump made with the Taliban. The money was sent to the Afghan government, which turned it over to the Taliban (PolitiFact). The letter writer calls Democrats stupid, but does he think Putin will stop at Ukraine?
Diversity means a variety of people and ideas. Equity means fairness and impartiality. In co-ed sports, men and women have their own locker rooms. And people who hate drag performances shouldn't take children to see them.
I have cousins and neighbors who are Republicans. I don't hate them. But Trump really damaged our nation. He tried to overthrow the election and he keeps lying about it to his followers. I feel sorry for Mr. Zeck's acceptance of those lies. I hope the people in our community can heal and unite.
