Question our leaders; don’t follow blindly

3 min read

DEAR EDITOR:

It's been a rough two years under Biden. We need to secure our borders. How? That's the problem. Energy, we need to drill, but we need to transition to cleaner. The economy is humming; yet, we're being crushed by inflation.

I believe in supporting Ukraine militarily, even sanctioning Russia. China has turned a cold shoulder to Putin. His reserves are fleeing. Not a good look for a dictator. Ukraine is getting the better of their brutal aggressor. War crimes are being committed.

Obviously, I've posed more questions than solutions. Biden is a decent man, but he's not cutting it. I'd like to pose this about the right's hypocrisy. Trump made us two huge campaign promises. Mexico would pay for his wall. And he would replace Obamacare with his creation. In four years he initiated not even a plan.

To his credit, he inherited a robust economy from Obama and expanded it.

He renegotiated NATO countries' contribution to its defense. He did the same with trade treaties. We became energy independent.

In foreign affairs, he led Israel to a peace treaty with regional countries, but Palestine always will be an explosive issue. Did Trump make us safer? He negated Obama's agreement with Iran to not pursue nuclear weapons (which I think would have been violated anyway), but it gave us agents there. Trump tore it up, and replaced it with nothing. Which is better? Something or nothing?

Trump was enamored with Putin and Kim. That alone should have infuriated hawkish "Republicans." In Geneva in 2017, he stood next to Putin, and when media asked 'Do you believe our intelligence agencies or Putin?' on the subject of election interference. He chose Putin. Trump glowed that Putin told him "strongly and powerfully," he did not. Republicans said nothing. They were, and are, afraid to cross Trump. Their political lives depend on it. These are the politicians who hated him in 2016.

Question authority. Why was Obama questioned for not wearing an American flag on his lapel in 2012? He then became un-American, not even a citizen -- all false. Yet, Donald Trump openly wears a Q pin, of those claiming a liberal cabal murders babies in the basement of a pizza shop and then uses their blood for satanic rituals. And no one on the right says a thing!

How far we have fallen. We trash our own Capitol and our long-held smooth transition of power. For deniers claiming insurrectionists were invited in, watch HBO's "Four Hours at the Capitol." It will sicken you. We are a country of three parties. Republicans, Democrats and Trump.

John Kasich, Mitt Romney and John McCain are looking good now. Solid and decent people. We have lost so much grace.
