The people of Niles knew our teachers were due raises and supported teachers in a huge majority. Normally, good people will err on the side of right. The board misjudged the union and must not have considered the city. What transpired was a planned and concerted effort to make teachers kowtow to "authority." I rarely got along with supervision, but a foreman once said, "Just because you have authority to do something, doesn't mean it's right." That sums things up.

We read about traffic crashes and fatalities. I believe Memorial Day was 17; July 4th was 16 for Ohio. They don't usually describe road conditions. Some local roads need work. I don't think townships have money. State roads are pretty good. County roads need work. I travel Howland Wilson, North River, North Road, King Graves Road, Niles Vienna and Warren Sharon Roads. Most need striped. Markings are hard to see. King Graves Road is in bad shape.

If you listen closely you can hear a boatswain's whistle; then the 1MC, "The Chief of the Boat has Departed." Howard Malmberg has departed this life. He put 20-plus years in the Navy's submarine service and 25 years with United Telephone in Warren. My favorite memory of him was Christmas Eve. He came around with a fifth of Jack Daniels. He would pour two fingers in your coffee mug and wish you a Merry Christmas.

I paid back every dollar of my college loans 40 years ago, and it wasn't easy. Joe Biden's loan forgiveness program is nothing more than a sleazy attempt to buy about 40 million votes. I hope that twice that number who paid off their loans remember this in future elections.

Biden is trying to give $10,000 in college forgiveness loans. A survey says 71 percent of Ohioans did not go to college. That means truck drivers, carpenters and Walmart workers can help pay for this with your income taxes. Nancy Pelosi said last year that Biden can't do this without congressional approval. I bet you won't hear a sound from her now. Once again, Biden does as Obama did. Dems voted for him.

The Inflation Reduction Act provides tax incentives that create future-forward green energy products domestically. Already Honda has announced that together with LG it will put $4.4 billion into battery production in the U.S., possibly Ohio. With requirements of incentives, we can expect to see similar announcements from automakers and other manufacturers. The Democratic Party understands economic growth starts with helping working families and these incentives create jobs while addressing the climate crisis. Democrats help working families.

Often, political discussions degenerate to personalities and political parties while government policies are ignored. During Trump's administration our southern borders were secure, taxes lowered, inflation 1.5 percent, people working not sitting, strong military, economy growing, crime was punished, foreign dictators feared America. COVID-19 hit, and personal animosity toward Trump brought us Biden. Now the southern border is open, taxes up, inflation soars, people don't want to work, economy in recession, crime is rampant and Putin invades. Vote policy!

Response of Donald Trump and the MAGA right to Mar-A-Lago's search is outrageous! He is no longer in office. What gives him leeway and privilege in calling shots in this investigation? If the undeniable evidence shows you or I stole top secret government documents, claimed them as our own and refused to relinquish them, we would be met with a Seal Team assault on our residence, guns drawn and immediate incarceration! Trump must be indicted for crimes he turned into felonies!

During his campaign, Joe Biden pledged to unite the country. What happened? He has done nothing but divide people through sky-rocketing inflation, the ongoing mess at the southern border, illogical forgiveness of student loans, downward trend of the stock market, etc. Instead of complaining so much about Donald Trump, perhaps he should be more concerned with how he is destroying the country. We, the voters, must wake up before it is too late.
