DEAR EDITOR:
Perhaps you remember the worldwide pandemic of 2020? And the election in November of that year, when Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump for the Presidency of the United States?
And how Donald Trump refused to accept the voters' decision? (They now have him on video refusing to say that the election was over.) And how Steve Bannon, adviser to Trump, was quoted as saying a few days before the election, that no matter if Trump won or lost, he was going to declare victory. If he lost the election, he was going to say it was "rigged."
And how the Trump campaign worked with Republicans in battleground states to create "fake electors" to send to Congress and the National Archives? And how Trump and his associates called state election officials, such as Georgia, to get them to change the votes to favor Donald Trump? (And the Georgia officials recorded them.)
And how they attempted to run a fake "audit" in Arizona with the Cyber Ninjas? And how, when everything failed, they decided to send out a tweet to all of Trump supporters, especially the violent ones, to come to Washington on Jan. 6 to "stop the steal?" And how Trump enlisted the help of many Republicans in the House and Senate to "stop the steal" on Jan. 6?
Do you remember how they set up a "war room" to coordinate activities between the Trump campaign and the armed militias? And how Donald Trump, Rudy Guiliani, Don Jr., Mo Brooks and others incited the mob to violence on that day, and Trump told them to "march down to the Capitol?" And how the mob resorted to violence against Capitol Police and threatened lives of elected officials, including Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker Nancy Pelosi?
Do you remember how the Secret Service for Pence so feared for their lives that they called their families to say goodbye? And how Republicans, including Fox News hosts, pleaded with Donald Trump to stop the attack upon our Nation's Capitol? And how Donald Trump did nothing but watch it all unfold on TV, to his delight?
And how, now, we are supposed to forget that any of that ever happened?
Donald Trump was scheduled to give a big speech in Washington, D.C., and Fox News advertised it nonstop.
We are supposed to return to normalcy. Joe Biden is at 37 percent in the polls, and the Republicans are favored to win the House and Senate, unless some "radicals" interrupt the process.
Nothing mentioned above ever happened. No one broke any laws. No one needs to be held accountable. We need to look forward, not backwards.
You imagined it all. It never really happened.
