Our elected officials are introducing legislation to restore Delphi pensions. Sherrod Brown, Rob Portman and Tim Ryan sponsored a bill to make pensions whole with back payments. I hope this bill covers ALL pension cuts the PBGC made to thousands of non-Delphi retirees nationwide. It's unfair to help one group when thousands had to accept PBGC rules. I lost my CSC (Copperweld) job 21 years ago and 70 percent of my 30-year pension that I counted on. Make legislation fair to all.

Commissioner Niki Frenchko is a stone in the shoe of the Trumbull County political system. It is best, if this is her capacity to govern, that she be so kind to leave office and seek other employment. It's very clear she is not capable to carry out her duties as commissioner. The public is sick and tired of her antics and dereliction of her duties.

You can tell elections are around the corner. Gov. Mike DeWine's virtue signaling by his order not to allow Russian vodka to be sold in Ohio, although most Russian vodka actually is made in Poland. If the governor really wants to impact Russia financially, maybe he should condemn the 800,000 barrels of oil we get daily from Russia while our pipelines sit idle.

Sixty-four percent in a Trib poll blame Putin for Ukraine invasion. Biden halted the Keystone pipeline, drilling in Anwar and on federal lands. He gave Putin the green light for Nord Stream 2 pipeline, giving Russia dominance over the EU and U.S. He delayed weak sanctions on Russia until after the invasion. Now, we pay billions per day to Russia for oil while killing Ukrainians. U.S. supplying the world's energy stops this madness. Stand with Ukraine.

Last April, two Republicans in the Ohio House told lawmakers their "constitutional carry" bill would ease the bureaucratic hassle of undergoing training and a background check to obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon. They didn't write the speech. The speech was written by a gun lobbyist. We need lawmakers who serve the people, not special interests.

We keep hearing that we must preserve democracy. We don't have a democracy. We have a representative republic, and we elect politicians who run on a platform we want to hear. Then they go to Congress and do something different.

Ohio House Bill 109 would make rioting a felony and discourage protests through enhanced penalties for protest damages and organizers. Its passage is discouraged by some groups. Aggravated rioting already is a felony under certain circumstances, "such as intent to use or cause violence …" Criminal damage to property also is an Ohio felony if risk of harm to others exists. Maybe the bill could be tweaked to ensure language defines looting as violence, often a spinoff of rioting.

Donald Trump praised his friend Putin with words like "genius" and "savvy" and that Putin's army would be "peacekeepers" in Ukraine. Trump berated NATO while president, never looking at intelligence reports because he knew more than anyone. Biden has united the West in a stance against bullies aggressing on Ukraine. Biden inherited a mess from Trump, who cared more about himself than the country, including ambivalence to science, world, economics; remember his logic was to inject bleach to vaccinate against COVID.

Putin's unconscionable invasion of Ukraine can be traced back to the United States' humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan. He saw weakness on the part of the West and pounced. His evil ways will continue, and Mr. Biden will stutter and stumble to try and stop him. The U.S. needs strong leadership, and we do not have it at the present time.
