DEAR EDITOR:
One year into Joe Biden's presidency and following the recent State of the Union address, I can say that I am once again proud to be an American.
I am proud to live in a country that is united for freedom and democracy, a country that stands against dictatorships and aggression. I am proud to live in a country that stands together with our allies and people of Ukraine for peace and security.
I am proud that we are bringing back bipartisanship and rebuilding strengths that made our country great. We are moving manufacturing back to America, building factories and creating good jobs right here in Ohio that just a few years ago would have gone overseas.
We are modernizing our roads, airports, waterways and infrastructure to re-establish our global economic competitiveness. We are doing all of this in a manner to withstand the devastating effects of the climate crisis and promote environmental justice.
I am proud that we are addressing tax codes and other policies that focused our national wealth in a handful of corporations and individuals, and distributing it more equitably among the people who generated it. We are re-establishing a living wage for working Americans, expanding services to support our veterans, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. We are giving our children a strong start in life by making pre-K schooling available to every child.
We are once again embracing diversity, as demonstrated by the first majority nonwhite presidential Cabinet in history, with the most women, first LGBTQ+ and Native American officials, most first-generation Americans and most first-generation college graduates.
I am proud that we are healing our divisions and resurrecting The United States of America.
