DEAR EDITOR:
A mass psychosis will always work if messages of fear are constantly disseminated through public networks and most citizens remain ignorant of the truth. Often those who claim to protect us from fear are actually manipulating our fears for their own benefit. If we fail to seek the truth, then we are complicit in our own demise.
Stalin, Mao and Hitler were all masters of instilling fear with the aid of media, pitting man against man because of race, ideology and wealth. Many of us feel far removed from those who committed such atrocities, but here again we fail to recognize what is occurring right before our eyes.
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tells everyone, on live TV, if he were in power, he would beat the Canadian truckers with a stick, arresting them and garnishing their bank accounts. Everyone on that show laughs at the comments.
Many U.S. media pundits are calling this an insurrection that needs crushed. Why are leaders and news outlets so eager to silence any voice that differs from theirs? Where is the outcry for worker grievances? Why do media pundits feel it's governments' right to seize your assets, arrest and imprison you for peaceful protest? When people in a society have grievances, should the leaders call them Nazis, white supremacists, deplorables?
We're experiencing a psychic epidemic, which is far worse than COVID-19, earthquakes, wildfires or unknown microbes, where man's greatest danger to man is leaders, news outlets, social media and fear-filled propaganda -- the world's ending in 12 years, police are hunting people down based on skin color, unvaccinated people are spreading the virus purposely killing others. The truth is, vaccinated or unvaccinated makes no difference to this virus -- it's going to spread. If you're vaccinated, why are you still so afraid?
Fear makes people act irrationally and immorally. People are losing their humanity by badgering, bullying and aggressively taking actions against those who think differently. As fear increases, morality decreases; and that is how ordinary citizens turn on one another and become the inhumane monsters that torture and kill others in the name of social justice.
All news and political talk should be met with skepticism. Actively seeking the truth destroys false narratives; but people must look up from their phones, unplug the TVs and realize our government can enact the same rules to garnish your wages, freeze your bank account, stop your ability to make a living and imprison you -- if we keep silent. The time to speak up is now. Call your congressman.
The philosopher Voltaire stated, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
