Elections are coming and there are chances to change this Republican dominance made by those who only "follow and speak" Trump's rules. WE can help people by voting responsibly. WE can bring our Constitution back to relevance, where rules may actually be adhered to and followed honestly. Please get out and VOTE. PLEASE.

I totally agree with a Warren reader's complaint about our Community Amphitheatre's foul, smoke-filled seating. My family hasn't attended a concert there for several years after we encountered smoke (cigar, cigarette, pot, vapes) everywhere we sat last time. Surely this problem can be fixed so nonsmokers can also enjoy concerts in this beautiful arena.

Attention Warren residents: How many citizens of Warren get to vote themselves an 89% raise? How many workers get an automatic raise every sixmonths? The answer is Warren City Council! City Council now makes $21,000 for 21 meetings. These forever, undeserved raises should be repealed, so please vote YES to repeal in November.

When women wanted abortion to be made legal in the 1970s they said it would only be used if the woman was raped or the mother's life was in danger. Now, 23 states have passed laws that an abortion can take place right up to the moment of birth. The majority of these babies are perfectly healthy as are the mothers. The birthrate in the US is now 1.6. Abortion is the greatest tragedy in the history of mankind.

I am not enthusiastic about our choices for Ohio governor. However, when I read that Amy Acton refuses to debate, that is a giant red flag. Debates are about serving the public interest and responding to the needs of the voters by helping them make an informed choice at the ballot box.

The data center hysteria has gotten out of hand. Why not ban airplanes because they fall out of the sky? Why not ban electricity because it causes fires? Let's ban cars because they crash. Data Centers are essential to the function of our society.

The Trumbull County Planning Commission currently holds meetings for citizen input on preferred future land use for their specific community. These meetings are seriously under-advertised throughout the county. Apparently the Planning Commission isn't sending a mailing notifying each Trumbull County household. This issue demands every community member's input. It's in your interest to pay attention at this time. This is not just a trustee meeting. Future land-use planning for each community should have every resident's input. Please attend one.

Kudos to Councilman Greg Greathouse for voting against accepting the reason for Councilman Todd Johnson's absence from yet another council meeting. Rev. Johnson has missed over 30% of meetings since he announced he would be moving from the area, yet he continues to be paid that unmerited and unbelievable salary raise. Enough is enough. Rev. Johnson -- you can't be half in and half out. In fairness to all, you should resign from your council position.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Johnson officially resigned after this Soundoff was submitted.

The proposed gas tax suspension is a cheap trick trying to make voters forget the high cost of the crazy decisions from the Murkminder-in-Chief in the Oval Office. It doesn't cure inflation, it postpones it until after the November election. Vote out everyone who can't stand up to Trump.

100% of property tax stays in your community to pay for the services you take for granted. Very little sales tax or income tax is returned to your town. Most of it goes to Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland. Police, fire, 911 dispatch, senior services, road maintenance, libraries and local health departments all depend on property tax. Townships do not have income taxes and would have no way to make up the loss of revenue.

What are the Democrat Socialists' plans to help Americans? They're campaigning on lowering diesel-gas prices -- no plan; lower interest rates -- no plan; resolve Iran and Ukraine wars -- no plan, provide Medicare for all including illegals -- no plan without destroying it. Democrats created these disasters under Biden. Why would anyone believe they could help Americans? If you're voting Democrat, you're supporting higher taxes, illegals, crime, inflation, nuclear threats, endless Trump prosecutions and no policies.

The political cartoon on Page A4 of the Sept. 21 paper was a great redux with a Garden of Eden scenario. Its depiction of artificial intelligence (personified as a serpent) tempting Eve (a gullible victim) shows the dilemma facing today's society. If AI and data centers are the despised evils of 2026, why don't people trash their cellphones, iPads, computers, surveillance equipment and any other electronic devices that they can't live without?

As has happened too often in the past, a request for reconsideration was filed after the most recent Danny Lee Hill sentencing. However, finally there was a judge who said "Enough!' Citing things such as a "waste of the resources of defense counsel, prosecutors and the courts," Judge John Eklund denied the request. Having filed over 30 appeals since his original conviction, Hill's long-overdue execution is scheduled for July 2029. Hopefully, this will be the end of futile appeals.
