Richard C. Viney Sr. 1942-2026

NORTH BLOOMFIELD -- Richard Carlton "Dick" Viney Sr., 84, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, at his cherished farm surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

Dick was born March 25, 1942, in Warren, the son of John Carlton and Thelma Belle Clark Viney.

He grew up and lived his entire life in North Bloomfield. He was a 1960 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating from the Dairy Short Course program. When Dick came home from college, he operated Viney Hill Farms with his father, Carlton. In addition, he was an artificial insemination technician for Coba/Select Sires for several years. In 1964, he and his father built one of the first state-of-the-art parlor and free-stall operations. He farmed alongside his father until Carlton's death in 1987.

In 1995, due to his successful breeding program, he and his son, Rich, were able to expand the operation to triple its size, milking 300-plus cows, focusing on cow comfort, nutrition and genetics until 2022. He and Rich then transitioned the farm to a grain, hay and beef operation until his death. His entire family has always enjoyed helping them on the farm. The farm will continue building the Viney family legacy in his loving memory.

When you sit down to your next meal or glass of milk, think about Dick and your local farmers. They dedicate their lives to feeding the world and being good stewards to the land and animals.

Dick enjoyed watching and attending the Cleveland Indians/Guardians baseball games, collecting old agriculture and farm-related memorabilia, restoring antique tractors, being an avid rose grower, and watching "Dirty Harry" and Clint Eastwood Western movies. He enjoyed the companionship of his German shepherds, most recently Jack. Above all else, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved greatly. He adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his children, Christine (Vic) Sutton and Rich (Carrie Howells) Viney, whom he shares with his former wife, Linda Viney, who was also a dear caregiver and companion to him the past several months. He also leaves three grandchildren, Victor (Chloe) Sutton, Marissa (Jason) Paridon and Colton Viney; along with two great-grandsons, Briggs Paridon and Beau Sutton. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

Along with his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his loving sister, Patricia (Joe) Swipas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bristol Hospice for its care and compassion shown to Dick and to them.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the funeral home, and again from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Dick's name, to North Bloomfield Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 25, North Bloomfield, OH 44450.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
