CORTLAND - Brian K. Prentice, 54, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Brian was born May 1, 1972, in Warren to Donald Prentice and Jean Wilkins.
He grew up in Leavittsburg and attended LaBrae Schools. Shortly after graduating, he began working at Dinesol Plastics, where he spent more than 30 years and made many friendships along the way.
In 1996, Brian met Heather Lantz Prentice, the love of his life. Together, they raised their family and enjoyed a life filled with the things that mattered most to them. They loved being outdoors, taking road trips, cooking for family and friends, and spending time together.
Brian enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved hunting with Heather and his son, taking care of his yard and garden, and spending time in the garage listening to music and enjoying a Busch Latte. He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Bentley, whether they were playing cops and robbers or just enjoying each other’s company.
Brian was a proud dad and papa, and his family meant everything to him. He was especially proud of his son, Bryan, and had a special bond with his grandson, Bentley.
He leaves behind his wife, Heather Lantz Prentice; his son, Bryan D. Prentice; his grandson, Bentley J. Prentice; his parents, Donald Prentice and Jean Wilkins; and his brother, Scott A. Prentice of Leavittsburg. He also leaves his nephew, August “Auggie Dog” Benner; his nieces, Haylee Prentice and Cora Shaw; and many family members and friends.
Throughout his illness, Heather was Brian’s biggest supporter and caregiver. She was by his side through it all, and together they faced some incredibly difficult days. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and is now reunited with his grandmother, Mildred “Millie” Hendrick, who held a special place in his heart.
His family wanted to share a couple of special messages in his memory. To his son, Bryan: “Love you, buddy! I’ll always be walking by your side.” And to his grandson, Bentley: “Keep doing you, Mr. Tic Toc.”
Brian fought hard, and he will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Brian’s life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at 5616 Phillips Rice Road, Cortland, OH 44410. Family and friends are welcome to come share memories and celebrate Brian’s life.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped and supported them during Brian’s illness, especially Jenny, Heather, and the staff at Option Care, for their care and kindness.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, Cortland.
