WARREN -- Richard William Darbey III, 60, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026.
Richard was born June 22, 1966, in Warren, a son of Richard Darbey Jr. and the late Linda Tunison Darbey.
He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1988. After high school, Richard served in the United States Army with the 3rd Infantry Division. He was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany, for two years, serving as a tank driver and loader and reaching the rank of Specialist Four.
Richard worked for Mack Industries and was a jack of all trades who could fix or figure out just about anything.
Richard had an affable personality and an infectious laugh that will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a devoted Ohio sports fan and could often be found cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Guardians, Cleveland Browns and Ohio State.
More than anything, Richard loved his family. He cared deeply for his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He treasured time spent with them and especially loved watching them play sports and cheering them on from the sidelines.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Darbey.
He is survived by his father, Richard William Darbey Jr. of Cortland; his wife, Barb Darbey, with whom he shared many happy years; his sons, Richard (Randi) Darbey, Brian (Holly) Smallsreed, Tim (Heather) Smallsreed and David Smallsreed; his sister, Stacey (Jason) Swegan; his brothers, Robert Darbey and Brian (Margie) Darbey; and his 14 grandchildren, Nora, Madeline, Elizabeth, Logan, Dylan, Carter, Alek, Ethan, Mason, Christian, Malachi, Conrad, Roman and Harleen.
A celebration of life honoring Richard will take place at a later date.
Richard will be laid to rest with full military honors at a later date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
