NEWTON FALLS -- Lottie Bailey, 85, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2026, at the Kingsburg Senior Living Center in Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio.
She was born on March 27, 1941, in Vansant, Buchanan County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Alden E. and Bessie W. Boyd Cook.
Lottie married the love of her life, Shade R. Bailey, on Jan. 23, 1961, in Grundy, Buchanan County, Virginia; they enjoyed their last 50 years of marriage until he passed away on April 26, 2011.
Lottie has lived in Newton Township since 1961 and was formerly of Canton, Ohio.
Lottie attended church as a child and into her adulthood as a faithful Christian, reading her Bible every morning. She loved the Lord with her whole heart. One of her greatest joys was serving God and blessing others with her thoughtful handwritten notes and cards.
Lottie loved being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Gigi. She loved cooking, gardening, canning and working outside with her husband on the farm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Ronda Lynn Bailey; three sisters, Lucy Cook, Vernie Cook, and Hattie Bailey; and eight brothers, Alonzo, Monroe, Paul, James, Lawrence, twins, Odell and Ranel, and Bobby Lee.
Warm and loving memories of Lottie will be carried on by her four daughters, Karen and Joseph Leopardi of Amanda, Ohio, Mary and Clint Thompson of Alexandria, Ohio, Shalene and Joseph Mennett of Wickliffe, Ohio, and Darlene Bailey of Grove City, Ohio; four wonderful grandchildren, RaeLynn, Joshua Leopardi, Noah Thompson, and Nathan Mennett; and six great-grandchildren, Taylen, Lily, Charlotte (Lottie), Maverick, Raegan, and Cade.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at the James Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Rader officiating. Calling hours will be noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lottie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Shade, in Newton Falls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations please be made, in her memory, to the Hattie Larlham Foundation, 9772 Diagonal Road, Mantua, OH 44255 (in support of services for adults and children with developmental disabilities).
