CORTLAND -- Hiram Sanford Bonner, 83, departed this life at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, following complications of a short illness.
He was born Oct. 7, 1942, in Carrolton, Georgia, the son of Hiram B. and Garnetta Nellie Wilson Bonner, residing in the area for 34 years, coming from Niles.
Hiram was employed with WCI Steel Inc. for 40 years as a supervisor before retiring in 2004. He was a 1960 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown State University.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church and enjoyed sports, traveling and working out at the gym.
He married Flora Canty Bonner Jan. 19, 1963.
He leaves to mourn two sons, Hiram Sanford (Daphne) Bonner Jr. of Niles and Aaron (Nicole) Bonner of Normal, Illinois; one daughter, Mrs. Kecia (Ron) Reeves of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dr. Shawn Bonner; and one brother, Andrew B. Bonner.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at the Second Baptist Church, with calling hours from 10 to 11 a.m.
Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
