NEWTON FALLS -- Dale H. Hicks, 90, entered into eternal rest Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 7, 1936, in Palmyra, the son of Martin and Daisy Dunbar Hicks.
Dale was a 1954 graduate of Newton Falls High School and a 1958 graduate of Youngstown University. He taught school for 31 years, starting at East Junior High School in Warren, from 1958 to 1966 and then at Warren Western Reserve High School, from 1966 to 1989, when he retired.
Dale built his house with his own hands and liked to keep up with the weeding and lawnmowing. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and telling grand stories about his family.
Precious memories of Dale live on with his daughter, "The" Melissa Ann Baird (Michael) of Newton Township; three grandchildren, Michael Baird Jr. (Miranda), Martin Baird, and Max Baird; and other family, friends, and former students and colleagues who admire him and remember him fondly.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his beloved wife of 51 years, Joyce E. Curtis Hicks, whom he married June 23, 1973, and who passed Aug. 19, 2024.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 2640 S. Canal St., Newton Falls, OH 44444. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church, with the Rev. Steve Spurlock officiating. All who know and love Dale are welcome to attend and honor his terrific life.
Interment will follow in Newton Township West Cemetery.
