Virgie G. Doing 1940-2026

CORTLAND -- Virgie Geneva Doing, 86, affectionately known as "Bo" or "Grandma Bo" of Cortland, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Aug. 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Bo was born May 6, 1940, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Clifton E. and Mary M. Crockett Tackett.

She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, and following graduation began work as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph Hospital. A proud homemaker and devoted mother, Bo was also a woman who believed deeply in the value of hard work. Throughout the years, she held several positions, including working for many years as a hostess at Cesta's Golden Gate, serving as a line supervisor for AVI Food Systems and later working at her family's gift shop, a job that held a particularly special place in her heart.

Yet, more than any job or accomplishment, Bo's greatest joy and proudest legacy was her family. Her hard work and dedication were always fueled by a deep love and commitment to those she held dear. Nothing made her happier than gathering the people she loved and making memories together. Bo had a special gift for bringing warmth and beauty to every occasion. She loved planning and hosting themed dinner parties and was well known for her beautiful decorations and fine china. She especially treasured hosting the holidays, filling her home with laughter, good food and the people she loved most.

She also enjoyed going out to eat, traveling, shopping and attending cookouts with family and friends. Her generous heart, welcoming spirit and love of family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Bo will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dennis E. (Sharon) of Warren, and Lisa D. (Doug) Boldt of Cortland, with whom she made her home for the past 14 years; her grandchildren, Michelle (Joshua) Haggerty, Raven Peura, Casey (Ryan) Makosky, Nicholas (Bryce) Boldt and John Herbert-Doing; her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Adelle, Claire and Patrick; her sister, June (David) Harrison of Lordstown; her brother, Clifton Jr. (Sherry) Tackett of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bo was preceded in death by her grandson, Douglas Herbert Doing; her brother, Cecil Tackett; and her sister, Hazel Bright.

Bo leaves behind a lifetime of love, countless cherished memories and a family who will forever carry her love in their hearts. Though she will be deeply missed, the warmth she brought to every gathering, the traditions she created, and the love she so freely gave will live on through the generations she leaves behind.

Per Bo's wishes, no services will take place.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel of Warren.
