CORTLAND -- Susan Irene Ostrode, 67, of Cortland, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 31, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 12, 1959, in Warren, a daughter of Robert E. Smith and Margaret I. Thomas Smith.
She married the love of her life, Laurence "Bob" Ostrode on April 24, 1976, and together they have shared 50 years of marriage.
Susan was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, whose kindness, warmth and unconditional love touched everyone who knew her. She found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. Whether she was baking homemade treats in the kitchen or welcoming family into her home, she had a special way of making everyone feel loved. Her recipes were filled with more than ingredients, they were made with love, patience and the joy of bringing people together, especially for Sunday family dinners.
More than anything, she treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. She created countless cherished memories through the laughter, hugs, stories and simple moments that will remain in our hearts forever. Her love was constant, her wisdom comforting and her patience inspiring.
Susan leaves behind a family who will keep her forever in their memory. She is survived by her husband, Laurence "Bob" Robert Ostrode; son, Robert "Rob" (Ashley) Ostrode of Brookfield; son, Michael Ostrode of Vienna; daughter, Amanda (Randy) Bump of Cortland; son, Brandon (Rebekah) Ostrode of Poland; sister, Carolyn (Raymond) Hudak of Cortland; brother, Thomas (Lori) Smith of Cortland; sister, Darlene (Scott) Dutton of Cortland; brother, Stephen (Bobbie Lynn) Smith of Kinsman; grandchildren, Dominic, Ethan, Wyatt, Sofia Ostrode of Poland, Jaxon Ostrode of Vienna, Macy and Vernon Ostrode of Brookfield, Ava, Isabel "Izzy" and Ellie Bump of Cortland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brandy Lynn Ostrode; and daughters-in-law, Jessica Ostrode and Danelle Durig.
Funeral Mass will be at noon Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church of Cortland, where Fr. Cline will officiate.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Additional visitation will take place from 10 to 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at the funeral home, before processing to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church of Cortland.
Internment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.
