KINSMAN -- Robert L. Thorn, 90, of Kinsman, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, 2026, at Ohman Family Living in Middlefield.
Born on Sept. 24, 1935, in Howesville, W.Va., Robert was the son of the late Joseph and Virginia (Keener) Thorn.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States military and later enjoyed a long career as a millwright with the former Copperweld Steel, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Kinsman.
Following retirement, Robert devoted himself to the many hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He was an accomplished fly fisherman who tied his own flies, an avid gardener and a talented woodworker. He enjoyed carving duck decoys and crafting wooden marbles, often keeping one in his pocket to share with others as a way to start a conversation. Robert was a collector at heart, finding fascination in everything from knives and stamps to banana stickers. He was also a gifted artist who loved painting, drawing and practicing calligraphy.
On June 2, 1957, Robert married the former Yvonne Kellar. Together they shared 55 years of marriage until her passing on June 17, 2012.
Robert is survived by his three sons, Robert (Jackie) Thorn of Brownsville, Pa., Michael (Marlene) Thorn of Burghill, and David (Josh) Thorn of Chagrin Falls; six grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Ben, Jordan, Jillian, and Jeremy; a step-granddaughter, Amanda; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Thorn of Bristolville, Thomas Thorn of Tunnelton, W.Va., and John Thorn of Kingwood, W.Va.; and his sister, Catherine Castle of Kingwood, W.Va.
In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald "Bud" Thorn and Howard Thorn, and his sister, Delores Thorn Dennison.
Family and friends may call on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, from 1 to 2 p.m., with a funeral service at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home.
