CORTLAND -- Rev. Robert H. Long, 87, of Cortland, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at Continuing Healthcare at the Ridge.
He was born March 6, 1939, in Ellwood City, Pa., the son of the late Robert A. Long and the late Grace A. Davis Long.
Robert graduated from New Castle High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Nyack College.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Robert was a member of the North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as a missionary to Japan for 24 years.
Robert enjoyed sports, nature and the outdoors.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Joy Long of Mineral Ridge; son, Nathan Long of Fowler; and two grandchildren, Emili Mizuno and Emma Long of Tokyo, Japan. Also surviving are his siblings, Rev. Thomas A. Long of Indiana, John A. Long of Kentucky and Anne D. Long of Grove City, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Long; and his sister, Judith E. Atkins.
Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, at North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church.
Interment will be in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in New Castle, Pa.
The family requests that material contributions be made to Japan's ministry through North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, in his memory.
