HOWLAND -- Michael Steven Tachovaka, 72, entered into eternal rest at 12:22 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, at University Hospitals-Cleveland, following a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born Nov. 20, 1953, in Warren, a son of Steven and Corinne Annie Carden Tachovaka Henderson.
A truly engaging man who loved life, Mike was a graduate of Newton Falls High School, where he held the records for shot put and discus for many years and Kent State University, graduating with degrees in marketing and mechanical engineering. He retired, after 37 years, as an engineering supervisor from Delphi Packard, including seven years at Delphi Mexico.
Mike was a drummer, entertainer and a founding member of the Takes 5 Band, playing local weddings, parties and events for over 40 years. He was still performing and jamming every week with his friends and fellow musicians.
Mike had many loves -- his wife, his family and friends, and his award-winning 1964 Chevelle Super Sport that he proudly owned and displayed at car shows for over 50 years. He and Pam loved traveling, which they did extensively sometimes on his Harley Road King. He loved animals, especially his two one-eyed cats and found peace in growing things, creating beautiful flower gardens and nurturing his tomatoes, which he happily shared with everyone. He enjoyed Cleveland sports and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Mike always had a smile and kind words for everyone. He was outgoing, caring and easy to talk to. A true family man, he loved spending time with his children, coaching them in softball and basketball and sharing fun adventures big and small. Many young people in Newton Falls still remember him fondly as Coach Mike.
Precious memories of Mike live on with his beloved wife, Pamela, whom he married on Jan. 18, 2014; two daughters, Cortney Mikel Tachovaka (Kenneth Beard) of Moore, Oklahoma, and Kalyn Tachovaka-Whitton (Ross Whitton) of Fresno, California; one stepdaughter, Poppy Fee (Gregg) of Warren; one stepson, Colby Ferguson of Chesapeake, Virginia; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; his brother, Daniel M. Tachovaka (Diana) of Warren; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Ferguson of Lake Milton; and additional family and friends who loved Mike and think of him fondly.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and his stepson, Jeremy Ferguson.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, where services will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday. All who knew and loved Mike are welcome to attend and honor his great life.
