MINERAL RIDGE -- John J. Scheckelhoff Sr., 77, of Mineral Ridge, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026.
Born on Sept. 30, 1948, in Youngstown, John was the son of the late Herman and Caroline Butler Scheckelhoff.
A 1966 graduate of East High School and a proud alumnus of Youngstown State University, John built a life centered on hard work, family and service to his community.
For 50 years, John was the proud owner of Struthers Metal Service, where he earned the respect of colleagues, customers and friends through his dedication, integrity and strong work ethic.
Beyond his career, John was a devoted mentor and coach, spending more than 40 years coaching softball and positively influencing the lives of countless young athletes. He was also a familiar face on Saturday evenings, enjoying spirited games of bocce with the Strommeyers for over 20 years.
John's generosity, leadership and willingness to lend a helping hand made him a true pillar of the Mineral Ridge community.
Above all else, John cherished his family. On Dec. 30, 1997, he married the love of his life, Nancy Snell Scheckelhoff, with whom he shared many happy years, filled with love and laughter.
John leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Nancy Scheckelhoff; his daughters, Susan Scheckelhoff and Linda (Frank) Page; his stepson, John Harmacy; his cherished grandchildren, Ariel (Anthony) Basinger, Robbie Page, Ryan Page and Tessa Rivera; his sisters, Patty Conn and Char Higgins; along with his extended family, dear friends, and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Caroline Scheckelhoff; his brothers, Tom Scheckelhoff and William Scheckelhoff; his sisters, Margaret Benton and Caroline Pagley; his son, John Scheckelhoff Jr.; his daughter, Amanda Harmacy; and beloved family members from New York.
John's legacy is one of unwavering devotion to family, commitment to his community, and a life lived with kindness, humility and purpose. He will be remembered for his warm smile, generous heart and the countless lives he touched through his friendship, coaching, and example. His family and friends were the center of his world, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield Niles Road, Mineral Ridge.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at the chapel.
John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing to all whose lives he touched.
