PETERSBURG -- John B. Schippert, 78, of Petersburg, passed away Monday evening, July 27, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
He was born April 3, 1948, in Youngstown, the son of the late Frederick and Norma Jean Brooks Schippert.
John was a 1966 graduate of Jackson-Milton High School and spent his adult life as an autoworker at the former General Motors plant in Lordstown, where he worked for more than 30 years prior to retiring in 1996.
He married the former Jean L. Troutman Terry on Aug. 16, 2008. Together, they shared 16 years of marriage and many happy memories. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2025.
John was an active member of the Petersburg Presbyterian Church and had served as a lay pastor in the area since 2004. Prior to that, he was a member of the Lake Milton Presbyterian Church, where he'd served as an elder.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and being around the lake. He was a skilled woodworker and was also an active member of the Springfield Township Ruritan. In his younger years, he volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts.
One of John's favorite activities was gathering with his friends for breakfast in their Thursday morning men's group.
John was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, John P. (Heather) Schippert of Uniontown, Scott F. (Kristina) Schippert of New Castle, Pa., Jodi (Jonathan) Moebus of Canonsburg, Pa., and Sheila A. Schippert of Austintown; three stepchildren, Amy (Jim) Scott of Petersburg, Charles Terry of Struthers and Anjuli Terry of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Carol Purnell of Lake Milton; 14 beloved grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lyn Schippert; a stepdaughter, Debbie Terry; and a sister, Kathy Hawkins.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church, 13996 Youngstown Pittsburgh Road, Petersburg, OH 44454, with Pastor Nathan Leslie officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
John will be laid to rest next to his parents in the Vaughn Cemetery, Lake Milton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to the Petersburg Presbyterian Church.
