CORTLAND -- David L. Kumher, 73, of Cortland, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, daughters, and his two dogs.
Dave was born Jan. 8, 1953, in Warren, a son of the late Louis and Margaret "Wanda" Lane Kumher.
He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Bennett Kumher, and together they shared 54 years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary on April 23.
After 47 years of dedicated service, Dave retired from Target/Bayloff Stamped Products in January 2020, where he worked as a part development technician.
Dave enjoyed cooking his favorite meals for his family and cheering on the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He could often be found outside with the radio playing, working alongside Cheryl on one of the many home improvement projects they enjoyed tackling together.
Above all, Dave's greatest accomplishment and source of pride was his family. He was immensely proud of his daughters and grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with those he loved.
Dave will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Cheryl; his daughters, Jody (Dan) Cook and Shannon (Brian) Graban; his grandchildren, Dr. Alan Cook, Sara, Emily, Michael, Anna, Grace Cook, and Lily Graban; his sisters, Margaret "Peg" Yanke and Donna Fortune; his sister-in-law, Janet Kumher; and many other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Verne Kumher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Patriot Hospice.
A private service will be held for the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service.
